Smoke Alarm Troubleshooting Guide

Smoke alarm does not

respond when Test

button depressed.

Red LED flashes and the

alarm sounds one beep

every 40 seconds.

Smoke alarm sounds

unwanted alarms

intermittently or when

residents are cooking,

taking showers, etc.

Red pin in back of alarm is

not positioned and seated

correctly.

1. Cold air temperature <6°C.

2. Battery is low.

The alarm is malfunctioning.

1. Alarm has dust or insect

inside casing.

2. Alarm is incorrectly

located.

Remove the alarm from the mounting plate and check

that the red pin is in the ON position.

1. Relocate alarm to warmer location.

2. The battery is not replacable. You will need to replace

the alarm.

Clean the alarm including vacuming around the exterior

and openings. If the malfunction continues, return the

alarm to supplier for repair or replacement.

1. Clean the alarm by gently vacuuming all openings

around the outside of the alarm using your household

vacuum's soft brush attachment.

2. Move alarm away from kitchen or bathroom/laundry

areas where cooking fumes or steam can trigger the

alarm.
