3.Whilethecomputerisoff,removeallexternaldevicesthatareattachedtoyourcomputer(keyboard,
mouse,printer,scanner,andsoon).Repeatstep2.Ifstep2isunsuccessful,continuewithstep4.
Note:Thefollowingstepsinvolveremovingstaticsensitivecomponentsfromyourcomputer.Ensure
thatyouareproperlygroundedandremoveallsourcesofpowerattachedtothecomputer.Ifyouare
uncomfortableorunsureaboutremovingcomponentspleasecalltheCustomerSupportCenterfor
assistance.
4.Whilethecomputerisoff,removeallsourcesofpowerandexternalhardwareandresetthesystem
byinsertingastraightenedpaperclipintotheemergencyresethole.Thenremoveanynon-original
memorymoduleaddedtoyourcomputer.Ifthecomputerstilldoesnotturnon,refertoChapter6
“Replacingdevices”onpage49fordetailsofresettingothercustomer-replaceablecomponentsthatare
attachedtoyourcomputer.
Ifthecomputerstilldoesnotstartup,calltheCustomerSupportCenterandaCustomerSupportSpecialist
willassistyou.
Spillsonthekeyboard
Withamobilecomputer,thereareincreasedchancesofspillingliquidsonthekeyboard.Becausemost
liquidsconductelectricity,liquidspilledonthekeyboardcouldcreatenumerousshortcircuits,potentially
causingirreparabledamagetoyourcomputer.
Ifyouspillsomethingonyourcomputer:
Attention:Ensurethatnoliquidcreatesashortcircuitbetweenyouandtheacpoweradapter(ifinuse).
Althoughyoumightlosesomedataorworkbyturningoffthecomputerimmediately,leavingthecomputer
onmightmakeyourcomputerunusable.
1.Carefullyunplugtheacpoweradapterimmediately.
2.Turnoffthecomputerimmediately.Themorequicklyyoustopthecurrentfrompassingthroughthe
computerthemorelikelyyouwillreducedamagefromshortcircuits.
3.Waituntilyouarecertainthatalltheliquidisdrybeforeturningonyourcomputer.
Note:Ifyouwanttoreplaceyourkeyboard,youcanpurchaseanewone.
Errormessages
•Message:0177:BadSVPdata,stopPOSTtask.
Solution:ChecksumofthesupervisorpasswordintheEEPROMisnotcorrect.Thesystemboard
shouldbereplaced.Havethecomputerserviced.
•Message:0183:BadCRCofSecuritysettingsinEFIVariable.EnterThinkPadSetup.
Solution:ChecksumoftheSecuritysettingsintheEFIVariableisnotcorrect.EnterThinkPadSetupto
checktheSecuritysettings,PressFn+F10andthenpressEntertorestartthesystem.Ifyoustillhavea
problem,havethecomputerserviced.
•Message:0187:EAIAdataaccesserror.
Solution:EnterThinkPadSetuptochecktheSecuritysettings.PressFn+F10andthenpressEnter
torestartthesystem.
•Message:0188:InvalidRFIDSerializationInformationArea.
Solution:TheEEPROMchecksumisnotcorrect(block#0and1).Resettheblock#0and1,forexample
theboxSerialNumber,and/orblock#4and5,forexampletheUUID.
