Takingcareofyourcomputer
Althoughyourcomputerisdesignedtofunctionreliablyinnormalworkenvironments,youneedtouse
commonsenseinhandlingit.Byfollowingtheimportanttipsinthistopic,youwillgetthemostuseand
enjoymentoutofyourcomputer.
Becarefulaboutwhereandhowyouwork
•Storepackingmaterialssafelyoutofthereachofchildrentopreventtheriskofsuffocationfromplastic
bags.
•Keepyourcomputerawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,electricalappliances,orspeakers
(morethan13cmor5inches).
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpurifiers,canproducenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmightbecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemightbedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedtothecomputer.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofa
dischargefromyourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,canincreasetheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputer
closetoanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomputertotheairfromanappliancethatcanproducenegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.
•Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignificantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
•Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
•Yourcomputerdisplayisdesignedtobeopenedandusedatanangleslightlygreaterthan90degrees.
Donotopenthedisplaybeyond180degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
•Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
•Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomputerby
thedisplay.
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
•Wheninstallingtheharddiskdrive,orsolid-statedrive,followtheinstructionsshippedwithyourhardware,
andapplypressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
•Turnoffyourcomputerbeforeyoureplacethestoragedevices.
•Afteryoureplacetheprimarythestoragedevices,reattachthecoverofthedriveslot.
