Sleepandhibernationproblems
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeunexpectedly.
Solution:Ifthemicroprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyenterssleepmodetoallowthe
computertocoolandtoprotectthemicroprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleepmode.
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeimmediatelyafterthepower-onself-test.
Solution:Ensurethat:
–Thebatteriesarecharged.
–Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.Referto“Operatingenvironment”onpage

Ifthebatteriesarechargedandthetemperatureiswithinrange,havethecomputerserviced.
•Problem:Acriticallow-batteryerroroccurs,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputerandplugit
intoanelectricaloutlet.
•Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbefore
resumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthesleepmodewithout
attachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,pressthe
brightness-upkeytobringupthecomputerdisplay.
•Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,orthesystem-statusindicator(illuminated
ThinkPadlogo)blinksslowlyandthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,itmighthaveenteredsleeporhibernation
modeautomaticallybecausethebatteriesaredepleted.Checkthesystem-statusindicator(illuminated
ThinkPadlogo).
–Ifthesystem-statusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)blinksslowly,yourcomputerisinsleepmode.
Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
–Ifthesystem-statusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)isoff,yourcomputerisinpower-offstateor
inhibernationmode.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbutton
toresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,yoursystemmightstoprespondingandyoumightnot
beabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youneedtoresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsaved
yourdata,itmightbelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsor
more.Ifthesystemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapterandresetthesystembyinsertinga
straightenedpaperclipintotheemergency-resethole.Tolocatetheemergency-resethole,referto

•Problem:Yourcomputerdoesnotentersleeporhibernationmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranyoptionhasbeenselectedtodisableyourcomputerfromenteringsleep
orhibernationmode.
Ifyourcomputertriestoentersleepmodebuttherequestisrejected,thedeviceattachedtotheUSB
connectormighthavebeendisabled.Ifthisoccurs,doahot-unplug-and-plugoperationfortheUSB
device.
•Problem:Thebatteriesdischargeslightlywhilethecomputerisinhibernationmode.
Solution:Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumessmallamountofpower.Thisisnota
