UsingtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceresidesinaprotected,hiddenareaofyourstoragedevicesthat
operatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem.Itenablesyoutoperformrecoveryoperations
evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.Youcanperformthefollowingrecoveryoperations
fromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace:
•Rescuefilesfromyourstoragedevicesorfromabackup
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocatefilesonyourstoragedevicesandtransfer
themtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceoradisc.Thissolutionis
availableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourfilesorifchangesweremadetothefilessinceyourlastbackup
operation.YoualsocanrescueindividualfilesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuplocatedonyourlocal
harddiskdrive,solid-statedrive,hybriddrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.
•RestoreyourstoragedevicesfromaRescueandRecoverybackup
IfyouhavebackedupyourstoragedevicesusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestorethe
storagedevicesfromaRescueandRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperating
system.
•Restoreyourstoragedevicestothefactorydefaultsettings
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourstorage
devicestothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionsonyourstoragedevices,you
havetheoptiontorestorethefactorydefaultsettingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitions
intact.BecausetheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindows
operatingsystem,youcanrestorethefactorydefaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindows
operatingsystem.
Attention:IfyourestorethestoragedevicesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestorethestorage
devicestothefactorydefaultsettings,allfilesontheprimarythestoragedevicespartition(usuallydrive
C:)willbedeletedintherecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantfiles.Ifyouareunable
tostarttheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcanusetherescuefilesfeatureoftheRescueandRecovery
workspacetocopyfilesfromyourstoragedevicestoothermedia.
TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedoff.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleaseF11whenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearbeepsorsee
alogoscreen,releaseF11.
3.IfyouhavesetaRescueandRecoverypassword,typeyourpasswordwhenprompted.TheRescue
andRecoveryworkspaceopensafterashortdelay.

4.Dooneofthefollowing:
•Torescuefilesfromyourstoragedevicesorfromabackup,clickRescuefilesandfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
•TorestoreyourstoragedevicesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuportorestorethestoragedevices
tothefactorydefaultsettings,clickRestoreyoursystemandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
