Reinstallingpreinstalledprograms
Toreinstallselectedprograms,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonyourcomputer.
2.GototheC:\SWTOOLSdirectory.
3.OpentheAPPSfolder.Thefoldercontainsseveralsubfoldersnamedforthevariouspreinstalled
applications.
4.Openthesubfolderfortheprogramyouarereinstalling.
5.Double-clickSetup,andthenfollowtheon-screenstepstoreinstalltheprogram.
Reinstallingpreinstalleddevicedrivers
Attention:Whenyoureinstalldevicedrivers,youarechangingthecurrentconfigurationofyourcomputer.
Reinstalldevicedriversonlywhenitisnecessarytocorrectaproblemwithyourcomputer.
Toreinstalladevicedriverforafactory-installeddevice,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonyourcomputer.
2.GototheC:\SWTOOLSdirectory.
3.OpentheDRIVERSfolder.Thefoldercontainsseveralsubfoldersnamedforthevariousdevices
installedinyourcomputer(forexample,AUDIOandVIDEO).
4.Openthesubfolderforthedevice.
5.Reinstallthedevicedriverbyoneofthefollowingmethods:
•Inthesubfolderforthedevice,lookforatextfile(afilewiththeextension.txt).Thetextfilecontains
informationonhowtoreinstallthatdevicedriver.
•Ifthesubfolderforthedevicecontainsafileofsetupinformation(afilewiththeextension.inf),you
canusetheAddNewHardwareprogram(intheWindowsControlPanel)toreinstallthedevicedriver.
Notalldevicedriverscanbereinstalledbyuseofthisprogram.IntheAddNewHardwareprogram,
whenpromptedforthedevicedriveryouwanttoinstall,clickHaveDiskandBrowse.Thenselect
thedevicedriverfilefromthedevicesubfolder.
•Inthesubfolderforthedevice,lookfortheexecutablefile(afilewiththeextension.exe).Double-click
thefile,andfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Attention:Ifyouneedupdateddevicedriversforyourcomputer,donotdownloadthemfromtheWindows
UpdateWebsite.ObtainthemfromLenovo.Formoreinformation,see“Makingsuredevicedriversare

Solvingrecoveryproblems
IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironment,doone
ofthefollowing:
•UsearescuemediumtostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace.See“Creatingandusingarescue

•Userecoverymediaifallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailedandyouneedtorestorethestorage
devicestothefactorydefaultsettings.
Note:IfyouareunabletoaccesstheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceortheWindowsenvironmentfroma
rescuemediumorrecoverymedia,youmightnothavetherescuedevice(aninternalharddiskdrive,
solid-statedrive,hybriddrive,adisc,aUSBharddiskdrive,orotherexternaldevices)setasthefirstboot
deviceinthestartupdevicesequence.Youmustfirstmakesurethatyourrescuedeviceissetasthefirst
bootdeviceinthestartupdevicesequenceintheSetupUtilityprogram.See“Startupmenu”onpage87
