Power-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofbatterypower.
•Screenblankmode(forWindows7only)
Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffthepowertothedisplayandmake
thecomputerenterscreenblankmode,right-clickthebattery-gaugeiconinthewindowsnotificationarea
andselectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleepmode
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthesolid-statedrive,harddiskdrive,orhybrid
drive,andthecomputerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestored
withinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pressFn+4.
Youalsocanputthecomputerintosleepmodebydoingthefollowing:
–ForWindows7:OpentheStartmenu,thenclickthearrownexttotheShutdownbutton.Click
Sleepfromthemenudisplayed.
–ForWindows10:OpentheStartmenu,click
Power,andthenclickSleep.

•Hibernationmode
Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavingfilesorexitingany
programsthatarerunning.Whenthecomputerentershibernationmode,allopenprograms,folders,and
filesaresavedtothestoragedevices,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.
Toputthecomputerintohibernationmode,dothefollowing:
–ForWindows7:OpentheStartmenu,thenclickthearrownexttotheShutdownbutton.Click
Hibernatefromthemenudisplayed.
–ForWindows10:Definewhatthepowerbuttondoesfirst,thenpressthepowerbuttontoputthe
computerintohibernationmode.Formoreinformation,see“Frontview”onpage1.
Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmodewiththewake-upfunctiondisabled,thecomputerdoes
notconsumeanypower.Thewake-upfunctionisdisabledbydefault.Ifyouputyourcomputerinto
hibernationmodewiththewake-upfunctionenabled,thecomputerconsumesasmallamountofpower.
Toenablethewake-upfunction,dothefollowing:
1.GotoControlPanelandclickSystemandSecurity.
2.ClickAdministrativeTools.
3.ClickT askScheduler.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethe
passwordorprovideconfirmation.
4.Fromtheleftpane,selectthetaskfolderforwhichyouwanttoenablethewake-upfunction.The
scheduledtasksaredisplayed.
5.Clickascheduledtask,andthenclicktheConditionstab.
6.UnderPower,selectthecheckboxforWakethecomputertorunthistask.
•Wirelessoff
Whenyouarenotusingthewirelessfeatures,suchasBluetoothorwirelessLAN,turnthemoff.Thishelps
conservepower.Toturnoffthewirelessfeatures,pressthewireless-radioscontrolkey.
Managingthepowerplan
Powerplanscanhelpyoumaximizeyourcomputer’sperformanceorconserveenergy.Youcanselecta
powerplanorcustomizeitbychangingitspowersettings.Toachievethis,dothefollowing:
