Whenyoustartthecomputeragain,youcanuseyourfingerprintstologintothecomputerwithnoneedto
enteryourWindowspassword,power-onpassword,andharddiskpassword.
Attention:Ifyoualwaysuseyourfingerprinttologintothecomputer,youmightforgetyourpasswords.
Writedownyourpasswords,andkeeptheminasafeplace.Ifyouforgetyourpower-onpassword,
youmusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoauthorizedserviceroramarketingrepresentativetohavethe
passwordcanceled.Ifyouforgetyourharddiskpassword,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordorrecover
datafromthestoragedrive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoauthorizedserviceroramarketing
representativetohavethestoragedrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbecharged
forpartsandservice.
Settingthefingerprintreader
Youcansetthefingerprintreaderinthefingerprintprogramifavailable.Youalsocanchangethefollowing
settingsintheThinkPadSetupprogram:
•PredesktopAuthentication:Enablesordisablesfingerprintauthenticationbeforetheoperatingsystem
isloaded.
•ReaderPriority:Definesthepriorityforthefingerprintreadersifanexternalfingerprintreaderisattached.
•SecurityMode:Specifiesthesettingsofthesecuritymode.
•PasswordAuthentication:Enablesordisablesthepasswordauthentication.
Note:ThisitemisdisplayedonlyifHighsecuritymodeisenabled.
•ResetFingerprintData:Selectthisitemtoeraseallofthefingerprintdatastoredineithertheinternal
orexternalfingerprintreader.
TochangethesettingsintheThinkPadSetupprogram,see“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage75.
Maintainingthefingerprintreader
Thefollowingactionscoulddamagethefingerprintreaderorcauseitnottoworkproperly:
•Scratchingthesurfaceofthereaderwithahard,pointedobject
•Scrapingthesurfaceofthereaderwithyourfingernailoranythinghard
•Usingortouchingthereaderwithadirtyfinger
Ifyounoticeanyofthefollowingconditions,gentlycleanthesurfaceofthereaderwithadry,soft,lint-free
cloth:
•Thesurfaceofthereaderisdirtyorstained.
•Thesurfaceofthereaderiswet.
•Thereaderoftenfailstoenrollorauthenticateyourfingerprint.
Ifyourfingerhasanyofthefollowingconditions,youmightnotbeabletoregisterorauthenticateit:
•Yourfingeriswrinkled.
•Yourfingerisrough,dry,orinjured.
•Yourfingerisstainedwithdirt,mud,oroil.
•Thesurfaceofyourfingerisdifferentfromtheonewhenyouenrolledyourfingerprint.
•Yourfingeriswet.
•Yourfingerthatyouarecurrentlyusinghasnotbeenenrolledbefore.
