Installinganewoperatingsystem
Insomesituations,youmightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.Thistopicprovidesinstructionson
howtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.
InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
Attention:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourstoragedevices,
includingthedatathatwerestoredinahiddenfolder.
ToinstalltheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.CopyallthesubdirectoriesandfilesintheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice.
•ThesupplementfilesfortheWindows7operatingsystemareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.
•ThedevicedriversareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.
•ThepreinstalledprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.
2.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage75.
3.SelectStartup➙BoottodisplaytheBootPriorityOrdersubmenu.
4.Selectthedrivethatcontainstheoperatingsysteminstallationprogram,forexample,USBHDD.
ThenpressEsc.
5.SelectStartup➙UEFI/LegacyBoot.Thendooneofthefollowing:
•ToinstalltheWindows7(32-bit)operatingsystem,selectLegacyOnlyorBoth.
•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminLegacymode,selectLegacyOnly.
•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminUEFImode,selectUEFIOnly.
Note:Forcomputerswithanon-volatilememory(NVM)Expressdrive,youcaninstalltheWindows
7operatingsystemontothedriveonlyinUEFImode.Inthiscase,ensurethatyoualwaysselect
UEFIOnly.
6.PressF10toexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.
7.InserttheWindows7operatingsysteminstallationDVDintotheopticaldrive,andrestartthecomputer.

•IfyouarestartingtheinstallationDVDimagefromanexternalUSBdeviceorifyourcomputerhasan
NVMExpressdriveinstalled,doadditionalconfigurationsbeforeyoustart.Formoreinformation,go
