Wildcard characters
Definition:
wildcard
A wildcard is a character that is used in a search string to
represent an unknown or variable character or string of
characters.
Purpose
Wildcards have two main purposes. They allow you to find
• a particular user when you do not know the user’s
mailbox number and have only partial information about
the user
• a range of users
Types of wildcards
There are two wildcards that you can use.
Where you can use
wildcards
You can enter wildcards in the following fields:
• Mailbox Number
•Last Name
• First Name
• Department
• Extension Number (DN)
• Message Waiting Indication DN
Wildcard Description
_ The underscore (_) replaces a single character.
+ The plus sign (+) replaces a string of characters.
