Technical Tips When installing IR cameras, attention should be taken in the positioning of the camera in order to maximise the effectiveness and coverage of the IR. Low powered IR LEDs can be affected by environmental conditions resulting in poor performance. Where possible, the following should be avoided: n Large areas of tarmac. n Areas which are mainly laid to grass. n Areas with many concrete surfaces. IR is absorbed by the above types of surface, which can significantly reduce the IR coverage.

A balun converts an unbalanced video signal into a balanced signal which can then be fed over standard CAT 5 cable. CAT 5 is much more cost effective to work with than RG59 and also provides greater flexibility as up to 4 video signals can be fed on a single CAT 5 cable run. Baluns can be either passive (no power required) or active (they need a separate PSU but generally offer extended transmission distance).
