3.5.3 Programming Area Codes
Up to 10 (REV D and lower boards) or 255 (REV E and higher boards) different area codes can be
programmed depending on how the system was setup in programming instruction 3.2.2. Program
area codes when 10-digit or long distance calling is required. Area code pointers are referenced 0 –
9 in step 2 (for a total of 10) when the system is set for 10 area codes, or they are referenced 000 –
254 in step 2A (for a total of 255) when the system is set for 255 area codes. The actual area codes
will be entered as a four-digit number (1 + the three digit area code). If area codes are being
programmed to facilitate 10-digit calling requirements, precede the three-digit area code with #.
NOTE: 255 area codes are available on REV E and higher circuit boards. REV D and lower
boards have 10 area codes only.
1. Press *24 and enter the four-digit MASTER CODE _ _ _ _ (beep). When the system
is set for 10 area codes, the display will show 0 – 9 AAC POINTER. When the
system is set for 255 area codes, the display will show 000 – 254 AAC POINTER.
2. Enter the area code pointer (0 – 9 when set for 10 area codes) _ then press * (beep).
The display will show 4 DIGIT AREA CODE.
2A. Enter the area code pointer (000 – 254 when set for 255 area codes) _ _ _ then
press * (beep). The display will show 4 DIGIT AREA CODE.
3. Enter the four digit area code _ _ _ _ then press * (beep). NOTE-1: for long distance
calling requirements, enter 1 and the three-digit area code. NOTE-2: for 10-digit
calling requirements, enter # and the three-digit area code.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to enter additional area codes. Remember to use a different
area code reference number when entering more area codes.
5. Press 0# TOGETHER to end this programming step (beeeeeep).
3.5.4 Programming Phone Numbers with Area Code Pointers
In this section, phone numbers that are referenced to an area code pointer (long distance and 10-digit
dialing calls) will be programmed. Be sure that the area code(s) have been programmed as
described in the preceding section.
NOTE: If long distance or 10-digit dialing is not required, program the seven digit telephone
numbers as described in 3.5.2.
1. Press *41 and enter the four-digit MASTER CODE _ _ _ _ (beep). The display will
show DIRECTORY CODE.
2. Enter the directory code (1, 2, 3 or 4 digits depending on what was programmed in
3.5.1) then press * (beep). The display will show AAC POINTER.
3. For systems setup for 10 area codes, enter the single digit (0 – 9) area code pointer _
then press * (beep). The display will show PHONE #.
3A. For systems setup for 255 area codes, enter the three digit (000 – 254) area code
pointer _ _ _ then press * (beep). The display will show PHONE #.
4. Enter the seven-digit phone number _ _ _ _ _ _ _ then press * (beep). If the number
that you are entering in this step is less than seven-digits, enter # in the empty
spaces. See 3.5.2, step 3.
5. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 to enter additional long distance phone numbers.
6. Press 0# TOGETHER to end this programming step (beeeeeep).
