Basic Steps for Shooting and Playback
Preparation 3 Insert a Memory Card
1 Be sure that the power-on lamp and the
monitor are off and open the battery-
chamber/memory card slot cover.
• Be sure to turn off the camera before opening the
cover.
2 Insert the memory card.
• Slide the memory card in correctly until
it clicks into place.
B Inserting the Memory Card
Inserting the memory card upside down or
backwards could damage the camera or
the memory card. Be sure to check that the
memory card is in the correct orientation.
3 Close the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover.
B Formatting a Memory Card
• The first time you insert a memory card that has been used in another device into this camera, be
sure to format it with this camera.
• All data stored on a memory card is permanently deleted when the card is formatted. Be
sure to transfer important images to a computer and save them before formatting.
• To format a memory card, insert the memory card into the camera, press the d button and
select Format card (A88) from the setup menu (A86).
B Note About Memory Cards
Refer to the documentation included with the memory card, as well as “Memory Cards” (F5) in
“Maximizing Camera Life and Performance”.
