Changing the V-Drive Oil
After the first 100 hours of
operation and every
season and/or 500 hours
thereafter, the oil in the V-
Drive should be changed.
Run the boat to warm up
the V-Drive to operating
temperature. Turn off the
engine. Put a suitable
container under the V-
Drive unit to catch the oil.
Remove the plug in the
bottom cover that is
opposite the oil strainer to
drain the oil.
Reinstall after draining.
Disconnect the oil hose
that is attached to the
strainer. Leave the elbow
on the strainer. Unscrew
the strainer and clean the
outside surface of the
strainer. Reinstall the
strainer and reconnect the
oil hose. Unscrew the
two magnetic plugs that
are located on diagonally
opposite corners of the main housing. Clean any particles off these plugs and
replace. Refill the V-Drive with SAE #30 weight oil.
Winterizing the V-Drive Unit
For protection from freezing during winter
storage, remove the small pipe plugs (located
diagonally opposite) on the front and back of
the housing. These plugs are marked “Water
Drain” on the V-Drive. Re-install these plugs
before using the boat.
Cooling water comes through the bottom of the
boat via a through-hull fitting. This water passes
through the strainer, transmission oil cooler, the
engine and then out the exhaust. It is important
