This product uses a 1.2 -1.5V battery. Always use the rated AAA battery, and pay attention to the polarity when replacing the battery. Reusing a battery which has leaked is prohibited. Pay attention to the USB cable direction when connecting this product to a PC.

What is iAUDIO? What is iAUDIO? iAUDIO is a unique brand of MP3 player produced by COWON SYSTEMS, Inc. It is a super mini portable digital audio device that plays various formats of sound files, including MP3. It also supports FM radio listening/recording, as well as voice recording and direct encoding through the built-in microphone and Line-In input jack.

Loading the Battery/Connecting USB Cable Loading the Battery 1. Push down the battery cover on the back of iAUDIO 4, slide the cover down and pull it out toward you to remove it. 2. Insert the - /negative pole of the AAA size battery into the top of the battery compartment where there is a spring, and then put the + /positive pole into the bottom. 3. Push the cover from the bottom to the top in the reverse order of opening it.

When you press the Mode key, the Navigation mode is activated Music Files: You can navigate through music files such as MP3 and WMA according to the folder structure. Dynamic PlayList: The Playlist that contain the files added with the ‘Add to list’ feature is displayed. You can also delete files from the list.

Select a desired mode and press the ‘MENU’ button. • You cannot change modes from the ‘MENU" window. 5. Block Repeat Setting: Use the ‘REC(A B)’ button while playing tracks in the MP3 Player mode.
Simple Operations by Mode FM Radio Mode FM Radio (Listening to FM Radio) After turning the iAUDIO on, press the ‘Mode’ button and select ‘FM Radio’ from the menu that appears. Use the ‘+’ or ‘–‘ buttons for navigation and select with the ‘Menu’ button to enter the ‘FM’ mode. When you press the ‘FF/REW’ button briefly while in ‘FM’ mode, the frequency changes by 0.1 Khz.
Simple Operations by Mode Voice Recorder Mode 21 Voice Recorder (Recording voice with the built-in microphone) After turning iAUDIO on, press the ‘Mode’ button and select ‘Voice Recorder’ from the menu that appears. Use the ‘+’ or ‘–‘ buttons for navigation and select with the ‘Menu’ button to enter the ‘MIC’ mode. Press the ‘REC’ button to start recording. The file is recorded in the preset recording quality as the file name V***.mp3 under "VOICE" in the "Records" folder.
Simple Operations by Mode Line-in Recorder mode Line-in Recorder (Direct Encoding) We will explain with an example of direct encoding between a "CD player" and the iAUDIO 4. After turning the iAUDIO on, press the ‘Mode’ button and select ‘Line-in Recorder’ from the menu that appears. Use the ‘+’ or ‘–‘ buttons for navigation and select with the ‘Menu’ button to enter the ‘Line-in Recorder’ mode. Connect the headphone jack of the CDP and the Line-in jack of the iAUDIO with a two-way stereo jack cable.
Simple Operations by Mode Line-in Recorder mode 23 Press the ‘REC’ button to set the iAUDIO to standby status for recording. At this time, the memory usage icon blinks but the timer does not increase, so it is not recording but is in standby status. When you press the ‘Play’ button of the CDP, the iAUDIO receives the signal input from the Line-in jack and starts recording. The recorded file is saved as ‘L***.mp3’ under "LineIn" in the "RECORDS" folder in a certain sequence.

Select ‘Equalizer’ and press the ‘MENU’ button. The 5-band EQ appears. With the ‘+’ and ‘–‘ buttons, select from: Normal, Rock, Jazz, Classic, Pop, Vocal, and User EQ. You can adjust all these different EQ types.
Detailed Features by Menu JetEffect 5. 3D Surround : 25 ‘3D Surround’ provides 3-dimensional sound effects. After pressing the ‘MENU’ button in the ‘MP3 Player’ mode, enter ‘JetEffect’. Select ‘3D Surround’ and press the ‘MENU’ button. A menu appears for you to select a level between 0 and 10. Change the value with the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons. 6. Left & Right Balance (Pan) ‘Pan’ is the feature to adjust the balance between left and right sound volume.

Select ‘Boundary’ and press the ‘MENU’ button to change the value as follows: • 1 (One) : Only one song is played. • F (Folder) : Only the currently selected folder is played.

Three colors, Red, Green and Blue appear. When you select ‘Red’ and press the ‘FF/REW’ button, the color changes.

Then choose a value with the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons. • This is the feature to set the speed for ‘Fast Forward/Fast Rewind’ when the ‘FF/ REW’ button is pressed and held down.

Battery Type 31 • This is the menu to directly set the battery type used. • Since the measurement of the Remaining Battery Charge depends on the battery type, you need to choose the correct one. • You can choose either ‘Alkaline’ or ‘Rechargeable.’ We officially recommend a 1.2 to 1.5V nickel hydride fast rechargeable dry cell or alkaline battery for iAUDIO. • Select ‘Battery Type’ and press the ‘Menu’ button. Then choose a battery type with the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons.

Line-in bps • This is the menu for setting the transmission rate (quality) of the MP3 files recorded via ‘Line In’. • You can choose: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, or 128 kbps. • From 32kbps to 64kbps is recorded in mono. From 80kbps to 128kbps is recorded in stereo. • Select ‘Line-in bps’ and press the ‘Menu’ button. Then choose a value with the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons. 2.

This feature allows you to save memory. • You can choose a number between 0 and 10. A smaller value gives more sensitivity (to the mic). If this value is set too high compared to the surrounding noise, the sensitivity of iAUDIO drops, causing it to remain in ‘recording standby’ status.

Stereo • This is the menu for selecting stereo or mono while listening to the FM radio. • You can choose ‘Stereo’ or ‘Mono’. • Select ‘Stereo’ and press the ‘Menu’ button. Then choose a value with the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons. 2. FM Region (Country Setting) • This is the menu for selecting the country where you are listening. • You can choose: China, Europe, Japan, Korea, Russia, or US. • Select ‘Region’ and press the ‘Menu’ button.
Detailed Features by Menu Information 35 Information Version (Firmware Version) • The current version number of the firmware installed in iAUDIO is displayed. Memory (Used/Total Memory) • Information on the flash memory in iAUDIO is displayed. • You can check usage and remaining memory size. • Some of the flash memory in iAUDIO is used for system area. Therefore, when we exclude the system area essential for normal operation of iAUDIO, the actual capacity of the flash memory is somewhat reduced.

Troubleshooting Symptom iAUDIO does not power on. There is no sound. FM Radio does not work. Remedy 37 Explanation Make sure that the polarity of the installed battery is correct. iAUDIO does not work if the polarity of the battery is switched. Replace the battery with a new one. iAUDIO does not work when the battery is dead. Remove the battery and insert it again. Check if contact areas of the battery (+ & - poles) are clean. Make sure that there are mp3 files in the memory.
Troubleshooting Remedy Explanation Memory is full and iAUDIO works abnormally or does not play. Symptom Initialize iAUDIO and leave a free space of 1-2 MB, then try again. An important system file, "settings.dat" is saved in the Root folder of the Flash memory. When this file is not saved properly, or deleted, or damaged during file transfer, iAUDIO may not work normally. Hundreds of files are saved in Root folder and iAUDIO does not work or works abnormally.

What is JetShell? What is JetShell? JetShell is the iAUDIO manager program providing the following features: • Downloading/Uploading files from/to iAUDIO (some files excluded).
Connecting iAUDIO and Installing JetShell 45 Installing JetShell When you insert the iAUDIO Installation CD in the CD-ROM drive, the installation program starts automatically. It may not start automatically sometimes depending on the status of the Windows. In this case, run CD-ROM: \Setup.exe or CD-ROM:\JetShell\Setup.exe. When the installation finishes, Start → Programs → COWON → iAUDIO 4 program group is registered. Connecting iAUDIO Windows ME/2000/XP 1. Insert a new battery in iAUDIO correctly. 2.

It was given for your reference only. 3. Connect iAUDIO and PC with a USB cable. In the normal Windows environment, a message saying that the iAUDIO 4 Digital Audio Player device was found will be displayed as shown in the picture. Click on the ‘Next’ button. 4.

Therefore, you should exit JetShell before performing the following tasks.
JetShell Configuration 51 Playing MP3, MP2, WAV, WMA, ASF, Audio CD, and Play List (m3u) Double click an MP3, MP2, WAV, WMA, ASF, Audio CD file, or Play List (m3u) in the ‘File Management’ Window, or drag and drop the file on the ‘Player’ shown above. Then the file starts playing. In addition, you can also select multiple files and then press the ‘Play’ button.
JetShell Configuration Flash Memory Management The bottom part of JetShell consists of ‘Flash Memory Management Section’ and ‘Download List.’ When iAUDIO is working normally, the red lamp flashes with the message ‘iAUDIO is working’ as shown in the figure. The files transferred from PC to iAUDIO by the user are displayed in the middle window. The "Memory used" bar shown at the bottom right indicates the used memory size of the total flash memory of iAUDIO.
Spectrum Screens and Sound Effects 53 JetShell displays visually cool spectrums. When you click on the spectrum display area, the screen changes as follows. You can also enjoy various equalizers and effects.
Downloading MP3 files to iAUDIO Downloading MP3 files to iAUDIO 1. Downloading sound files to iAUDIO is very simple. Select files to download from the ‘File Management Section’ and click on the down arrow. 2. Or you can also drag and drop the selected files from the ‘File Management Section’ to the window at the bottom as if you were using Windows Explorer. 3. The following window shows the file downloading process. The backlight turns on during file download.

This is useful when you wish to enter files in different folders with the + button and then download them all at once. 5. You can also download the files existing outside of JetShell by dragging and dropping them onto the ‘Flash Memory’ Window.
Deleting Files in iAUDIO Deleting Files in iAUDIO You can delete files in iAUDIO in the same manner as in Windows Explorer. Select the files to delete and click on the button. Then the confirmation window "Delete from flash memory?" appears. Click ‘Yes’ to delete them. You can also delete files from the pop up menu that appears when you right click your mouse after selecting a file in the ‘Flash Memory’ Window.
Initializing Flash Memory (Formatting) 57 You can format iAUDIO as you do a hard disk. However, you should take special care when you format it since all the data in the memory will be deleted. 1. From the JetShell menu, click [File] –[Format Device Memory]. 2. When the ‘Format’ window appears, select ‘FAT’. If you select ‘FAT32’ and format, iAUDIO is recognized as just USB storage media and will not function normally as an MP3 Player. Therefore, be sure to format as ‘FAT’ only.
ConvertingAudioCDTrackstoMP3FilesandDirectlyDownloadingThemtoiAUDIO Converting Audio CD Tracks to MP3 Files and Directly Downloading Them to iAUDIO With JetShell, you can easily convert your Audio CD into MP3 files and download them to iAUDIO. Since the Audio CD tracks are digitally converted to MP3 without transforming them to wave files first, the speed is very fast. 1. Before getting started, you must choose the quality of the MP3 files to create.

Other Features 61 1. Ripping Enhanced CD For some enhanced CDs, you cannot directly select the tracks on the CD. In this case, you can right click your mouse and select a track to convert to file as shown in the picture below. However, for some Audio CDs for which copy protection technology is applied, this ripping method may not work. What is an enhanced CD? This is an audio CD that contains video or data for a PC. The tracks appear when you right click your mouse. 2.
Other Features 3. Editing ID3 Tag You can edit the ID3 tag of a MP3 file by selecting [Tools] – [Edit MP3 ID3 Tag] from the JetShell menu.
Other Features 63 4. Changing MP3 Bit Rate You can change the bit rate of MP3 files by selecting ‘MP3 Bit Rate Conversion’ from the menu. 5. Downloading Logo File You can download a logo file to change the logo screen that appears when iAUDIO powers on. Select ‘Download Logo File’ from the menu. When the ‘Open’ window appears, locate the desired logo file and click ‘Open’. Then the logo file is automatically downloaded and applied.
Installing and Using JetAudio Installing and Using JetAudio The worldwide renowned integrated multimedia playing program ‘JetAudio’ is included in the iAUDIO Installation CD. To install ‘JetAudio’, run the file "CD-ROM:\JetAudio \setup.exe." For detailed information on using JetAudio, refer to the JetAudio ‘Help’ after installation, or post your question on the Q&A board at the site "http://www.JetAudio.com.
