X. Preventing Forest, Brush and Grass
Fires
Local, state and federal laws may require use of a spark
arresterto preventfires. For example, it isa violationof
California PublicResources Code (section 4442) to use or
operate engine on any forest-covered, brush-ceveredor
unimprovedgrass-cevered land unless engine is equipped
witha spark attester. Spark attester mustbe maintainedin
effectiveworkingorder by owner and/or operator.
To determine if your engine has a spark arrester, locatethe
muffleron your engine. For example, the mufflerdischarge
willhave a spark arrester cover that reads "Tecumseh
Screen Type 36085".
If yourengine does not have a sparkarrester, you may
purchase one from yourAuthorized Tecumseh Servicing
Dealer• In some cases the mufflermay need to be replaced
toallow the spark arresterto be installed•
