SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES A A A This symbol points out important safety instructions which, if not foilowed, could endanger the personai safety and/or property of yourself and others. Read and follow all instructions in this manual before attempting to operate your chipper shredder. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in per sonal injury. When you see this symbol—heed its warning. Your chipper-shredder was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation in this manual.
• • • • • • • • impeller to come to a complete stop. The impeller continues to rotate for a few seconds after the engine is shut off. Never place any part of the body in the impeller area until you are sure the impeller has stopped rotating. Muffler and engine become hot and can cause a burn. Do not touch. Do not allow leaves or other debris to build-up on engine’s muffler. The debris could ignite and cause a fire. Do not attempt to shred or chip material larger than specified in this manual.
ASSEMBLY IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped without gasoline or oil in the engine. After assembly, see OPERATION section of this manual for proper fuel and engine oil fill-up. NOTE: To determine right and left hand sides of your chipper-shredder, stand behind the unit with the engine farthest away from you. Your chipper-shredder has been completely assembled at the factory, except for the hopper assembly, chipper chute, discharge chute and the catcher bag. These parts are shipped loose in the carton.

DISCONNECTING SPARK PLUG • Disconnect the spark plug wire and move it away from the spark plug before assembiing the chipper-shredder. See figure 2. 6. ATTACHING HOPPER ASSEMBLY • • • • • • 5. ATTACHING DISCHARGE CHUTE • • • Remove the wing knobs from each side of the discharge opening on the chipper-shredder. See figure 3.
Tighten the bolt. This will secure the hopper assembly to the inlet guide. To raise \he hopper, hold the hopper by the hand-hold and lift it up till it clicks into position. To lowerthe hopper, hold the hopper by the hand-hold and pull the release bar. The hopper should drop down. See figure 5. 1. Lift hopper up • • • • • • • • 7. ATTACHING THE CHIPPER CHUTE • Remove the three cupped washers and hex nuts from the weld studs beside the opening on the left side of the housing. See figure 6.
OPERATION Read this owner’s manual and safety rules before operating your chipper-shredder. Compare the illustrations with your chipper-shredder to familiarize yourself with the location of various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference. The operation of any chipper-shredder can result in foreign objects being thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage.

Oil (Packed with unit) • Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SF, SG or SH. Select the oil’s viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature. Follow the chart below.
4. STARTING ENGINE A WARNING: Be sure no one other than the operator is standing near the chipper shredder while starting or operating. Do not operate this chipper-shredder unless the chute deflector has been properly installed and is secured with the hand knobs. NOTE: A noise will be heard when finding the start of the compression cycle. This noise is caused by the flails and fingers which are part of the shredding mechanism falling into place, and should be expected.

IMPORTANT: There is a flail screen located inside the housing in the discharge area. If the flail screen becomes clogged, remove and clean as instructed in the Service and Adjustments section. A WARNING: The chipper-shredder discharges materials with considerable velocity. Keep away from the area around the discharge chute.

Service pre-cleaner and filter more often under dusty conditions. Remove wing nut and cover. Slide pre-cleaner off filter. Clean the inside of base and cover thoroughly.
4. LUBRICATION Muffler WARNING: Do not operate the chipper A Lubricate the pivot points on the release bar, hopper assembly, chute deflector and chipper chute once a season using a light oil. See figure 16 shredder without a muffler, or tamper with the exhaust system. Damaged mufflers or spark arresters could create a fire hazard. Inspect periodically, and replace if necessary. If your engine is equipped with a spark arrester screen assembly, remove every 50 hours for cleaning and inspection.
2. SHARPENING OR REPLACING THE BLADES Shredding Blade Chipper Blades Disconnect spark plug wire and move it away from sparkplug. Remove the flail screen as instructed in previous section. Using a 1/2” wrench, remove the chipper chute by removing three hex nuts and washers. See figure 17. Using a 7/16” wrench, remove the brace (holding the chute to the frame) by removing the hex bolts. The shredding blade may be removed for sharpening or replacement as follows.

The blade can be tested for balance by balancing it on a round shaft screwdriver or nail. Remove metal from the heavy side until it is balanced evenly. See figure 20.
STORAGE A WARNING: Never store machine with fuel • in the fuel tank inside of building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark, or where ignition sources are present such as hot water and space heaters, furnaces, clothes dryers, stoves, electric motors, etc. • A yearly check-up by your local Sears service center is a good way to make certain your chipper-shredder will provide maximum performance for the next season. • • 1. Ajuste el perno. Esto asegurará el conjunto de la tolva a la guía de entrada. Para elevar la tolva, sujétela por el mango y levántela hasta que calce en posición. Vea la figura 5. Para bajar la tolva, sujétela por el mango y tire de la barra de desenganche. La tolva debería descender. Vea la figura 5. Eleve la tolva . FIJACION DE LA CANALETA DE LA ASTILLADORA Extraiga las tres arandelas acopadas y las tuercas hexag onales de los pernos soldados al lado de la abertura del lado izquierdo del armazón.
OPERACION Antes de operar su astilladora-desmenuzadora lea este manual del propietario y las reglas de seguridad. Compare las il ustraciones con su astilladora-desmenuzadora para familiarizarse con la ubicación de los varios controles y ajustes. Guarde este manual para referencia futura. Detención del motor • Mueva la palanca de control del acelerador a la posición STOP. Desconecte el cable de la bujía y aléjelo de la bujía para prevenir un arranque accidental. • Inspeccione el nivel de aceite. Con la astilladora-desmenuzadora sobre una superficie nivelada, use un embudo para llenar el motor con aceite hasta la marca FULL. La capacidad es de 26 oz. aproxi madamente. Tenga cuidado en no llenar en exceso. • Agregue aceite si fuera necesario.
ARRANQUE DEL MOTOR A NOTA: Al comienzo del ciclo de compresión se escuchará un ruido. Este ruido está causado por las desgranadoras y de dos que forman parte del mecanismo desmenuzador calzan do en su lugar, y debe esperarse. Además, las desgranadoras y dedos harán ruido después de arrancarse el motor, hasta que la hélice alcance máxima velocidad. ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese que ninguna perso na además del operador esté parada cerca de la astilladora-desmenuzadora al arrancar u operar.
A descarga el material, es posible que la cuchilla desmenuzadora y/o las cuchillas astilladoras estén desafiladas y requie ran afilarse o reemplazarse. Refiérase a la sección de Servicio y Ajustes. IMPORTANTE: Hay un tamiz de desgranadora ubicado den tro del armazón en el área de descarga. Extraiga y limpie según las instrucciones de la sección de Servicio y Ajustes. LIMPIEZA Para drenar el aceite: • Drene el aceite mientras el motor está caliente. Siga las in strucciones de abajo. • Saque la tapa de drenaje de aceite.
Para prestar servicio ai filtro de aire 1. Preste servicio al prefiltro después de cada 25 horas de uso, o por lo menos una vez por temporada. 2. Preste servicio filtro cada 100 horas de uso, o por lo menos una vez por temporada. 3. Preste servicio al prefiltro y al filtro más frecuentemente bajo condiciones polvorientas. • Extraiga la tuerca mariposa y la cubierta. Vea el recuadro de la figura 13, para la ubicación.
4. LUBRICACION Silenciador A ADVERTENCIA: No opere la astiliadora-desmenuzadora sin un silenciador ni manipule ei sistema de escape. Los silenciadores o supresores de chispas dañados pueden crear un riesgo de incendio. Lubrique los puntos pivote en la barra de desenganche, con junto de la tolva, deflector de la canaleta y canaleta de la astilladora, una vez por temporada usando un aceite liviano. Vea la figura 16. • Inspeccione periódicamente y reemplácelo si fuera nece sario.
Cuchilla de la desmenuzadora La cuchilla de la desmenuzadora puede extraerse para afilar o reemplazar según lo siguiente: • Desconecte el cable de la bujía y muévalo alejado de la bujía. • Baje el conjunto de la tolva. Una cuchilla desequilibrada causará una vibración excesi va al girar a altas velocidades y puede causar daños a la unidad, la cuchilla puede probarse por equilibrio equili brándola sobre un destornillador de hoja redonda o sobre un clavo. Desgaste el metal del lado más pesado hasta que la unidad esté uniformemente equilibrada. Vea la Figura 20.
ALMACENAMIENTO A NOTA: £/ estabilizador de combustible es una alternativa ADVERTENCIA: Nunca almacene la máquina con combustible en el tanque de combustible, dentro de un edificio donde los humos pueden alcanzar una llama expuesta o chispa, o donde estén pre sentes fuentes de encendido tales como calenta dores de agua caliente y de ambientes, hornos, secadores de ropa, cocinas, motores eléctricos, etc.
