REVERSIBLE _h, WARNING: Your drill should never be H connected to power supply when you are assembling parts, making adjustments, installing or removing drill bits, cleaning, or when not in use. Disconnecting your drill will prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal injury. See Figure 3. See Figure 2. This tool has the feature of being reversible. The direction of rotation is controlled by a selector located above the switch trigger.
VARIABLE SPEED (Models 315.101040 See Figure 4. CHUCK KEY (Model See Figure 5. and 315.101050) 315.101030) A chuck key has been provided for use when installing or removing bits. It is also used when removing the chuck. (See chuck removal section). If you have one of these models, your drill has a variable speed switch designed to allow operator control and adjustment of speed and torque limits. The speed and torque of your drill can be increased or decreased by depressing the switch trigger.
_ WARNING:Donotholdchuckbodywith one hand and use the power of your drill to tighten the chuck jaws on your drill bits. The chuck body could slip in your hand or your hand could slip and come in contact with a rotating drill bit. This could cause an accident resulting in serious personal injury. TO INSTALL On model 315.101030 tighten chuck jaws securely, using only the chuck key provided. • On models 315.
REMOVING • _k BITS When drilling metals, use a light oil on the drill bit to keep it from overheating. The oil will prolong the life of the bit and increase the drilling action. Unplug your drill. If the bit jams in workpiece or if the drill stalls, stop the tool immediately. Remove the bit from the workpiece and determine the reason for jamming. WARNING: Failure to unplug your drill could result in accidental starting causing serious injury. • On model 315.
LEVEL DRILLING TO RETIGHTEN See Figure 10. A convenient new feature provided with your drill is a level. It is recessed in the motor housing on top and end of your drill. It can be used to keep drill bits level during drilling operations. The chuck may become loose on spindle and develop a wobble. A LOOSE CHUCK To tighten, follow these steps: • TOPVIEW Unplug your drill. WARNING: Failure to unplug your drill could result in accidental starting causing serious injury.
,_ LUBRICATION WARNING: When servicing, use only identical Craftsman replacement parts. Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause product damage. All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal operating conditions. Therefore, no further lubrication is required. GENERAL EXTENSION CORDS Only the parts shown on parts list, page 15, are intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer.
