PLUNGE CUTTING (Fig. 16)
Plunge cuttingis useful and time-savingfor making roughopenings in softmaterials. It
makes it unnecessary to drilla hole for an insideor pocket cut.
1. Draw linesfor the opening.
2. Hold saw firmly and tiltit forward so the toe
of the saw foot rests on the workpiece.
3. MAKE SURE that the blade iswell clear of
the workpiece.
4. Startthe saw and then graduallylowerthe blade.
5.When the blade touches the workpiece,
continuepressingdownon the toe of the
saw foot.
6. Slowlypivotthesaw likea hinge untilthe blade
cuts throughand the foot rests flat on the
workpiece.
7. Then begin sawing on the cut line.
NOTE" DO NOT use a scrollblade for plunger cutting.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT try to plunge cut into hardmaterials, such as steel.
TO MAKE SHARP CORNERS
1. Cut up to the corner, then back up slightlybeforerounding the corner.
2. After the opening is complete, go back to each cornerand cutit from the oppositedirection
to squareit off.
