Firmly push the shoulder strap damp onto the drive shaft housing. Be sure that the shoulder strap damp is installed with the „hex shaped recession (on the damp) facing the same side of the drive shaft housing as the barrier por tion of the handlebar. c. Drop the threaded end of screw “E.” through the opening in the top of the T—handle.
FUELING YOUR ENGINE 2-CYCLE OIL: BEFORE FUELING ENGINE: AWARNESTG Be sure to read the fuel safety information in the Warn ings and Safety Instructions section on page 4 of this manual before you begin. If you do not understand the fuel safety section DO NOT attempt to fuel your unit; seek help from someone that does understand the fuel safety section or call the Cus tomer Assistance Hotline at 1-800—235-5878, CRAFTSMAN 40:1 2 cycle oil is strongly recommended.
C. D. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS • When using the blade, bring the engine to full throttle before entering the material to be cut. The blade has maximum cutting power at fuU throttle and is less likely to bind, stall, or cause blade thrust, which can result in serious iiyury to the operator or others. Refer to “Guard Against Blade Thrust”. > When using the trimmerhead, do not run the en gine at a higher speed than necessary. The cutting line will cut efficiently when the engine is run at less than full throttle.

4. MAINTAIN CONTROL a. Use tlie shoulder strap and keep a firm grip on the tool with both hands. A prop erly àcyuflted shoulder strap will support the weight of the tool, freeing your anna and hands to control and guidé the cutting motion. Keep the blade below waist leTel. It will he easier to maintain control of the tool. ' Do not raise the engine above your waist as the blade can come dangerously close to your body. Do not swing the tool with such force that you are in danger of losing your bal ance.

To help avoid damage especially to delicate vegetation or trees with tender bark, shorten line to 4—5 inches and use at less than full throttle. DECELERATION CifEGK 1. ) Allow engine to idle, then squeeze Throttle Trig ger fully. 2. )Allow engine to run at full speed for about 1 second. 3. )Release the Throttle Trigger to the idle position and listen to the deceleration of the engine. It must return to idle smoothly and within ! to 2 seconds. a. If performance is satisfactory,«proceed to Step "4.)” b. If the engine slowly or erratically returns to idle or idles erraticaUy, repeat “b.
5. Hold the “Flats” of the Clutch with an adjustable wrench as shown in Figures and remove the Nut counterclockwise with a 9/16" socket wrench, NOTE; Clutch will slide off the crankshaft intact. Do not disassemble dutch. 6. Remove the Beveled Washer, Clutch an^ Large Flat Washer. _ __ 7. Remove the Pulley Housing from the Engine. _____ 8. Remove Rope Retainer Screw. Remove any remaining rope. 9. Hand turn the Pulley clockwise asfer as it will go.

Clean the Air Filter; • Always after 5 tanka of fuel or 5 hours of operation, whichever is less. • More frequently, in dusty conditions. a. Loosen the two screws on the air filter cover enough to remove the cover from engine. b. Remove the air filter from the cover. c. Wash filter in soap and water. d. Squeeze filter dry and replace in cover.

La línea cortará con facilidad el césped y las hierbas alrededor de las paredes, cercas, árboles y lechos de flores, pero también puede cortar la corteza tierna de árboles o arbustos y rayar las cercas. Para evitar daños, espccialmciilc a la vegetación delicada o a los árboles con corteza tierna, disminuya el largo de la línea a 4 ó 5 pulgadas (10 a 13 cm.) y use menos que el acelerador a fondo. Para podar o para recortar al ras del suelo, use el acele rador a fondo para efectuar un buen y limpio trabajo.
NOTA: El cconomizador de línea de aluminio puede gastarse durante el uso. Una vez que se de.sgaste una ranura en el econoniizador de línea, .sáqueio de la cabeza de la cortadora, voltéelo al rcvé.s, y vuelva a instalarlo (después de sacar el carrete) para proporcionar una nueva superficie para el descaste. , c. M)TA: El embrague se deslizará intacto fuera de la caja del engranaje. No desarme el embrague. 6. Saque la arandela biselada, el embrague y la arandela plana grande. 7. Saque la caja de la polea fuera del motor. 8. Saque el tornillo de retén de la cuerda. Saque cualquier , remanente de cuerda que quede. , ,, 9.
