TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL

The choke control has been preset at the factory and
adjustment should not be necessary check adjustment as
described below before loosening cable If adjustment is
necessary, proceed as follows:
With engine not running, move choke contro+ (located
on dash panel) to full choke (N) position
Remove air cleaner cover, filter and cartridge plaie to
expose carburetor choke (See "AIR FILTER" in the
Customer Responslb+ltties section of this manual)
" Choke should be closed if tt +s not, loosen casfng
clamp screw and move choke cable unttl choke is
completely closed Tighten casing clamp screw se-
curely
, Reassemble air cleaner

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See Fig. 34)
The carburetor has been present at the factory and adjust-
mentshould notbe necessary However, minor adjustment
may be required to compensate for differences in fuel,
temperature, altitude or load If the carburetor does need
adjustment, proceed as follows: +
In general, turning the adjusting needles tn (ct0ckwise)
decreases the supply of fuel to the engtnegMng a leaner
fueValr mixture+ Turning the adjusting needles out (court
terctockwise) increases the supply of fuel to the engine
giving a richer fuel/air mixture+
IMPORTANT: DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLESAND THE
SEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF SCREW IS
TURNED iN TOO TIGHT
PRELIMINARY SEI_ING
Be sure yoiJ have a clean air filter and the throttle
control cable is adjusted properly (see "TO ADJUST
THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE' +n the Service and
Adjustments section of thEsmanual).
With engine off turn idle fuel adiusfing needle in (cIock+
wise) closing It finger tight and then turn out (counter+
clockwise) 1 turn
FINAL SETTING
Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes Make
final adjustments with engine running and shift/mot+0n
control lever in neutral (N) posffton
The high td]e is set at the factory and cannot be
adjusted.

engine Idles too slow or fast, turn idle speed ad usttng
screw In or out untlt correct idle is atta ned
!die fuel needle set ng - W th throttle control !ever in
slow (a_) position, turn idle fuel adjusting needie in
(clockwise) until englne speed decreases and then
tum out (counlerclockwtse) approximately 3/4 turn to
obtain the best low speed perforrqance.
Recheck idle speed. Readjust if necessary
ACCELERATION TEST -
Moyethroltle ct:ntrollever from.4tow (.m,_) to fast (_)
pestlton If engine hesitates or dies, turn Idle fuel
adjusting needle out (counterclockwise) 1/8 turn Re-
peat test and continue to adjusl+ if necessary, until
engine accelerates smoothly
High speed stop is factory adjusted Do not adjustdamage
rflay result
IMPORTANT: NEVER TAMPER WITH THE ENGINE
GOVERNOR, WHICH IS FACTORY SET FOR PROPER
ENGINE SPEED OVERSPEEDING THE ENGINE ABOVE
THE FACTORY HIGH SPEED SETTING CAN BE
DANGEROUS IF YOU THINK THE ENGINE-GOVERNED
HIGH SPEED NEEDS ADJUSTING, CONTACT YOUR
NEAREST AUTHORIZED SERVtCE CENTER/
DEPARTMENT WHICH HAS PROPER EQUIPMENTAND
EXPERIENCE TO MAKE ANY NECESSARY
