DisconnectBLACK battery cable first
then RED battery cable and remove

Rinse the battery with plain water and

Clean terminals and battery cable ends
with wire brush until bright.
Coat terminals with grease or petroleum
jelly.
Reinstall battery (See =REPLACING
BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND
ADJUSTMENTS section of this manu-
al.

after 100 hoursofoperationand replaceif
necessary.:Thebeltsare notadjustable.
Replacebeltsifthey beginto slipfrom

TRANSAXLE COOLING
The transmissionfan andcoolingfins
shouldbe keptcleanto assureproper
cooling.
Do notattemptto cleanfanortransmis-
sionwhile engineis runningor whilethe
transmissionis hot.
Inspectcoolingfan tobe surefan
bladesare intactand clean.
Inspectcoolingfins for dirt,grassclip-
pingsand othermaterials.To prevent
j:lamage to seals,do notuse com-
pressedairor highpressuresprayerto
cleancoolingfins.
TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID
The transaxlewas sealedat the factory
and fluidmaintenanceis notrequiredfor
the lifeof the transaxle.Shouldthe
transaxleever leak or requireServicing,
--contact your nearestauthorizedservice
center.
ENGINE
LUBRICATION
Only usehighqualitydetergentoil rated
withAPI serviceclassificationSF, SG or
SH, Selectthe oil'sSAE viscosity9rade
accordingto yourexpectedoperatingtem-
perature.
NOTE: Althoughmulti-viscosityoils
(5W30, 10W30 etc.) improvestartingin
coldweather,these multi-viscosityoilswill
resultin increasedoilconsumption when
usedabove32°F. Checkyourengineoil
levelmorefrequently to avoidpossible
enginedamagefrom runninglowonoil.
Changetheoilafter every25 hoursof
operationor atleastoncea yearif the
tractoris notusedfor 25 hoursinone
_ear.
heckthe crankcaseoil levelbeforestart-
ingthe engineandafter eacheight (8)
hoursof operation.Tightenoilfill cap/dip-
sticksecurelyeachtime youcheckthe oil
level.

Determinetemperaturerangeexpected
beforeoil change.Alloil mustmeetAPI
serviceclassificationSF,SG or SH.
Besuretractoris onlevelsurface.
Oil willdrainmorefreely when warm.
Catchoilin a suitablecontainer.
Removeoilfillcap/dipstick.Be careful
notto allowdirtto enterthe engine
whenchangingoil.
Removedrainplug.
Afteroilhasdrainedcompletely,replace
oildrainplugandtightensecurely.
Refillenginewithoilthroughoilfill dip-
sticktube. Pourslowly.Donotoverfill.

Usegauge onoilfill cap/dipstickfor
checkinglevel.Be suredipstickcap is
tightenedsecurelyforaccuratereading.

Air screen must be kept free of dirt and
chaff to prevent engine damage from over-
heating. Clean with a wire brush or com-
pressed air to remove dirt and stubborn
dried gum fibers.
