BEFORE STARTING ENGINE Engine oil cap ADD OIL Your lawnmower is shipped without oil in the engine. For type and grade of oil to use, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenance section of this manual. _IL CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine with oil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffler on startup. 1. Be sure lawnmower is level. 2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout. 3. You receive a container of oil with the unit. Slowly pour the entire container down the oil fill spout into the engine. 4.
MULCHING MOWING TIPS _i, CAUTION: Do not use de-thatcher blade attachments on your mower. Such attachments are hazardous, will damage your mower and could void your warranty. • Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing effort and to keep from overloading the engine and leaving clumps of grass clippings. It may also be necessary to reduce ground speed and/or run the lawn mower over the area a second time.

LAWN MOWER Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. TIRES • Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chemicals which can harm rubber. ° Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp objects and other hazards that may cause tire damage. DRIVE WHEELS Check front drive wheels each time before you mew to be sure they move freely. The wheels not turning freely means trash, grass cuttings, etc. are in the drive wheel area and must be cleaned to free drive wheels.
GEAR CASE • To keep your drive system working properly, the gear case and area around the drive should be kept clean and free of trash build-up. Clean under the drive cover twice a season. • The gear case is filled with lubricant to the proper level at the factory. The only time the lubricant needs attention is if service has been performed on the gear case, • If lubricant is required, use onlyTexaco Starplex Premium 1 Grease, Part No. 750369. Do not substitute. 5.
MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffler as it could create a fire hazard and/or damage. • Clean the underside of your lawn mower by scraping to remove build-up of grass and trash. • Clean engine often to keep trash from accumulating. A clogged engine runs hotter and shortens engine life. • Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil, etc.
TO ADJUST HANDLE Mowing The handle can be mounted in a high or low position. The mounting holes in the bottom of lower handle are off center for raising or lowering the handle. 1. Remove upper handle and all wire tie(s) securing cable(s) to lower handle. 2. Remove hairpin cotters from lower handle bracket mounting pin. 3. Squeeze lower handle in to remove it from mounting pins. 4. Turn lower handle over to raise or lower handle. 5.
° When setting up your handle from the storage position, the lower handle will automatically lock into the mowing position. • Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur. • Use fresh fuel next season. NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container. Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizer container.
TROUBLESHOOTING to a Sears Service PROBLEM Does not start - See appropriate section in manual unless directed Center. CAUSE CORRECTION 1. Dirty air filter. 2. Out of fuel. 3. Stale fuel. 4. Water in fuel. 5. Spark plug wire is disconnected. 6. Bad spark plug. 7. Loose blade or broken blade adapter. 8. Control bar in released position. 9. Control bar defective. 10. Fuel valve lever (if so equipped) in OFF position. 11. Weak battery (if equipped). 12. Disconnected battery connector (if equipped).

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTE Levante las ruedas para et corte bajo y baje Ias ruedas para el corte alto., ajuste la altura de corte para que se acomode a sus requisitos. La posiciSn del medio es la mejor para la mayoria de los c_spedes. • Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la palanca del ajustador hacia la rued& Mueva Ia rueda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de modo que se acomode a sus requisitos. Aseg_rese que todas las ruedas queden igualmente ajustadas.
ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR AGREGUE ACEITE Su segadora fue enviada sin aceite en el motor. Para el tipo y el grado del aceite a utilizar, vea el "MOTOR" en la secci6n del Mantenimiento de este manual. _PREOAUCl6N: NO sobre!lene el motor con deposito de aceite aceite, o fumar_ pesa demante del silenciador cuando Io valla a arrancar. 1. Aseg_rese que la segadora est_ nivetada. 2. Remueva la varila medidora de aceite del tubo de desarga de aceite. 3. Usted recibe un envase de aceite con la unidad.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA SEGADORA Siempre observe las reglas de seguridad cuando haga el mantenimiento. 1. Ponga el adaptador de la cuchilla en el cigueSal del motor. Aseg_rese que la ranura del adaptador y que el chavetero del cigue_al est6n alineados. 2. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de 6sta alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchitla con las salientes etevadas en el adaptador. 3. Aseg_rese de que el borde de salida de la cuchilla (opuesto aI horde afilado) est6 hacia arriba hacia el motor. 4.
PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR RECOGEDOR DE CESPED (Si comprado como accesorio) • El recogedor de c_sped puede set rociado con el agua de la manguera pero tiene que estar seco cuando se vaya a usar. • Revise su recogedor de c_sped a menudo para verificar si est_ daSado o deteriorado. Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si se necesita cambiar el recogedor, cAmbielo solamente pot uno que sea aprobado pot el fabricante. D_ el n_mero del modeIo de la segadora cuando Io ordene.
LIMPIEZA IMPORTANTE: Para obtener el mejor rendimineto, mantenga la caja de la segadora sin acumulacion de cesped y basura. Limpie Ia parte de abajo de su segadora despues de A_:_PRECAUCI6N: Los soiventes de petr61eo, tales como el keroseno, no se deben usar para Iimpiar el cartucho. Pueden producir et deterioro de _ste. No aceite el cartucho. No use aire a presi6n para limpiarlo o secarlo. 4.
PARA REMOVER LA CORREA DE IMPULSION 1. Remueva la cubierta de la impulsi6n. Remueva la correa empujando hacia abajo en Ia polea de Ia caja de engranajes. 2 Haga descansar la segadora en su lado con el filtro de aire y el carburador mirando hacia arriba. 3. Remueva ta cuchilla. 4. Remueva la defensa en contra del desperdicio. 5. Remueva Ia correa de Ia polea del motor en el cigueSal. PARA CAMBIAR LA CORREA DE IMPULSION 1. Instale Ia correa nueva en Ia potea del motor. 2.
Inmediatamente prepare su segadora para el almacenamiento unidad no se va a usar por 30 dfas o m_s. SEGADORA Cuando se va a guardar la segadora por cierto periodo de tiempo, limpiela cuidadosamente, remueva toda la mugre, ta grasa, las hojas, etc. Gu_rdela en un area limpia y seca. 1. Limpie toda la segadora (Vea "LIMPIEZA* en la secci6n de Mantenimento de este manual). 2. Lubriquela segL_nse muestra en la secci6n de Mantenimento de este manual. 3.
ACEITE DI=L MOTOR Drene el aceite (con el motor caliente) y c,_mbielo con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea "MOTOR _ en la secciSn de Mantenimento de este manual.) OTROS • No guarde Ia gasolina de una temporada a la otra. • Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se empieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n yio la mugre en su gasolina producir_n problemas. • Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recinto cerrado y c_brala para protegerla contra el polvo y Ia mugre.
