Thechainoilerprovidescontinuous
lubricationtothechainandguidebar.
Besuretofillthebaroiltankwhenyou
fillthefueltank(Capacity=6.8fl.oz.).
Formaximumguidebarandchainlife,
werecommendyouuseCraftsman
chainsawbaroil.IfCraftsmanbaroil
isnotavailable,youmayuseagood
gradeSAE30oiluntilyouareableto
obtainCraftsmanbrand.Theoiloutput
isautomaticallymeteredduringopera-
tion.Yoursawwilluseapproximately
onetankofbaroilforeverytankoffuel
mix.Alwaysfillthebaroiltankwhen
youfillthefueltank.
FUELINGENGINE

Thisengineiscertifiedtooperateon
unleadedgasoline.Beforeoperation,
gasolinemustbemixedwithagood
qualitysynthetic2-cycleair-cooleden-
gineoil.WerecommendCraftsman
brandsyntheticoil.Mixgasolineand
oilataratioof40:1.A40:1ratioisob-
tainedbymixing95mlofoilwith4
litresofunleadedgasoline.Included
withthissawisa95mlcontainerof
Craftsmanbrandoil.Pourtheentire
contentsofthiscontainerinto4litresof
gasolinetoachievetheproperfuel
mixture.DONOTUSEautomotiveoilor
boatoil.Theseoilswillcauseengine
damage.Whenmixingfuelfollowthe
instructionsprintedonthecontainer.
Onceoilisaddedtothegasoline,
shakecontainermomentarilytoassure
thatthefuelisthoroughlymixed.Al-
waysreadandfollowthesafetyrules
relatingtofuelbeforefuelingyourunit.
IMPORTANT
Experienceindicatesthatalcohol
blendedfuels(calledgasoholorusing
ethanolormethanol)canattractmois-
turewhichleadstoseparationand
formationofacidsduringstorage.Acidic
gascandamagethefuelsystemofan
enginewhileinstorage.
Toavoidengineproblems,thefuelsys-
temshouldbeemptiedbeforestorage
for30daysorlonger.Drainthegas
tank,starttheengineandletitrununtil
thefuellinesandcarburetorareempty.
Usefreshfuelnextseason.SeeSTOR-
AGEinstructionsforadditionalinforma-
tion.
Neveruseengineorcarburetorclean-
erproductsinthefueltankorperma-
nentdamagemayoccur.

CHAINBRAKE
Ensurechainbrakeisdisengagedby
pullingthefronthandguardbackto-
wardthefronthandleasfaraspos-
sible.Thechainbrakemustbedisen-
gagedbeforecuttingwiththesaw.

movewhentheenginerunsatidle
speed.Ifthechainmovesatidle
speedrefertoCARBURETORADJUST-
MENTwithinthismanual.Avoidcon-
tactwiththemuffler.Ahotmufflercan
causeseriousburns.

• Move ON/STOP switch to the STOP
position.

STARTING YOUR ENGINE
• To start the engine, hold the saw
firmly on the ground as illustrated.
Make sure the chain is free to turn
without contacting any object.
Starter Rope Handle
Important points to remember
When pulling the starter rope, do not
use the full extent of the rope as this
can cause the rope to break. Do not
let starter rope snap back. Hold the
handle and let the rope rewind slowly.
