ASSEMBLY Your new tractor has been assembled at the factory with exception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assembte must be tightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness. TOOLS REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLY A socket wrench set wilt make assembly easier, Standard wrench sizes are listed.
ASSE LY HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRACTOR INSTALL SEAT (See Fig. 3) Adjust seat before tightening adjustment knob. CONNECT BATTERY (See Fig. 2) • Remove cardboard packing on seat pan. CAUTION: Do not short battery termi" rials. Before connecting battery, remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. , Place seat on seat pan and assemble shoulder bolt.
ASSEMBLY INSTALL MOWER AND DRIVE BELT Place the R.H. suspension arm on inward pointing deck pin. if necessary, rock and raise front of mower to align deck pin with the hole in suspension arm. Retain with double loop retainer spring with loops down as shown. (See Figs. 4 and 7) Be sure tractor is on level surface and mower suspension arms are raised with attachment lift control, Engage parking brake. Cut and remove ties securing antFsway bar and belts. Swing antFsway bar to _eft side of mower deck.
ASSE iNSTALL MULCHER BLY PLATE (See Figs. 5 and 6) DEFLECTOR SHIELD install two latch hooks to mulcher plate using screw, washer, lock washer, and weld nut as shown. NOTE: Pre-assemble weld nut to latch hook by inserting weld nut from the top with hook pointing down. • Tighten hardware securely. • Raise and hold deflector shield in upright position. • , Place front of mulcher plate over front of mower deck opening and slide into place, as shown. Hook front latch intohole on front of mower deck.

OPEF ATUON The operatfon of any tractor can resutt in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can resuBt in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any adjustments or repairs. We recommend a wide vision safety mask over the spectacles or standard safety glasses.
OPERATION TO OPERATE TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS (See Fig. 9) Adjust gauge wheels with tractor on a flat level surface, o • ON HILLS UTfON: Adjust mower to desired cutting height, Lower mower with lift control. Remove retainer spring and ctevis pin which secure each gauge wheel bar. i mJ Do not drive up or down 1 s with smopes greater than 15 ° and do not drive across any s|ope. donotd,i,.,e ro ope.._ s o Choose the slowest speed before starting up or down hills.
OPERATION BEFORE STARTING CHECK ENGINE THE ENGINE TO START OiL LEVEL (See Fig, 12) o The engine in your tractor has been shipped, from the factory, already filled with summer weight oil. o Check engine oil with tractor on level ground. Unthread and remove oil fill cap/dipstick; wipe oil off. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube and rest oil fill cap on the tube. Do not thread the cap onto the tube. Remove and read oil level, tf necessary, add oil until "FULL" mark on dipstick is reached.
OPERAT O PURGE TRANSMISSION o To ensure proper operation and performance, it is recommended that the transmission be purged before operating tractor for the first time. This procedure will remove any trapped air inside the transmission which may have developed during shipping of your tractor. . iMPORTANT: SHOULD YOUR TRANSMtSSION REQUIRE REMOVAL FOR SERVICE OR REPLACEMENT, iT SHOULD BE PURGED AFTER REINSTALLATtON BEFORE OPERATING THE TRACTOR.

CUSTOME RESPONSW LITtES TRACTOR TO SHARPEN Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. Care should be taken to keep the blade balanced. An unbalanced blade wilt cause excessive vibration and eventual damage to mower and engine. BRAKE OPERATION o if tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted. (See "TO ADJUST BRAKE*' in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual). o (See Fig.
CUSTOME TRANSAXLE RESPONSI TO CHANGE ENGINE OiL (See Figs. 17 and t8) COOUNG The fan and cooling fins of transmission clean to assure proper cooling. Determine temperature range expected before oil change. All oil must meet API service classification SF, SG, or SH. should be kept Do not attempt to clean fan or transmission while engine is running or while the transmission is hot, To prevent possible damage to seals, no not use high pressure water or steam to clean transaxle.
CUSTO AiR FtLTER ESPO LmTmES MUFFLER (See Fig. 19} Your engine will not run properly using a dirty air filter. Clean the foam pre-cleaner after every 25 hours of operation or every season. Service paper cartridge every 100 hours of operation or every season, whichever occurs first. Inspect and replace corroded muffler and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fire hazard and/or damage. Service air cleaner more often under dusty conditions. ,, Loosen knob and remove cover.
SERWCE AND ADJUSTMENTS CAUTION: BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: - Depress , , ® P_ace attachment clutch in "D{SENGAGED" position. Place ignition motion key control lever neutral key, (N) position, Turn "OFF" andinremove Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped. Disconnect spark p_ug wire from spark ptug and piace wire where it cannot come in contact with ptug, _...... - c|utcidbrake pedal futly and set parking brake.
SERVICE A D ADJUSTMENTS FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT (See Figs. 23 and 24) mMPORTANT: DECK MUST BE LEVEL SIDE-TO-SIDE. IF THE FOLLOWING FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT IS NECESSARY, BE SURE TO ADJUST BOTH FRONT LINKS EQUALLY SO MOWER WILL STAY LEVEL SIDE-TO-SIDE. To obtain the best cutting results, the mower housing should be adjusted so the front is approximately !/8" to 1/2" lower than the rear when the mower is in its highest position. Check adjustment on right side of tractor.
SE TO REPLACE (See Fig, 26) MOWER VECE A BLADE Park the tractor on leve! surface. DRIVE ADJUSTM TS Make sure attachment clutch and ignition switches are in "OFF" position. BELT o Engage parking brake. Adjust the three nylon tocknuts until space between clutch plate and rotor measures .012" at all three slot locations cut in side of brake plate. o Remove mower ddve belt (See'q'O REPLACE MOWER DRIVE BELT" in this section of this manual).
$ERVnCE AND ADJUSTMENTS 3"0 REPLACE "TO ADJUST MOTION (See Fig. 30) MOTBON DRIVE BELT (See Fig. 29} If for any reason the motion control lever will not hold its position whiie at a selected speed, it may be adjusted at the friction pack located on the right side of chassis. Remove mower (See "TO REMOVE MOWER" in this section of this manual.) BELT REMOVAL - ° Park tractor on level surface. Stop tractor by turning ignition key to "OFF" position and engage parking brake.
SERVMCE AND ADJUSTMENTS FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT WASHER: Front wheel toe-in is required for proper steering operation. Toe-in was setat the factory and adjustment should not be necessary, if parts in the front axle or steering mechanism have been replaced or damaged, check toe-in and adjust if necessary. RETAINING RING AXLE COVER TO CHECK TOE-IN (See Fig. 31) o • Position front wheels straight ahead. Measure distance between wheels at front and rear of tires (dimensions "A" and "B").
ERVmCE AN TO REPLACE HEADUGHT ADJUST IENTS BULB Raise hood, = HEADLIGHT WiRE CONNECTOR Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. Replace bulb in holder and push bulb holder securely back into the hole in the backside of the gril!, Close hood, iNTERLOCKS HOOD AND RELAYS Loose or damaged wirirrg may cause your tractor to run poorly, stop running, or prevent it from starting. o Check wiring.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL (See Figs. 37 and 38) TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See Fig. 371 The carburetor has been present at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary. However, minor adjustment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel, temperature, altitude or load.
STORAGE immediately prepare your tractor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used for 30 days or ENGINE more.
