USING THE RIGHT FUEL The use of old fuel is the most common cause of performance problems. Use only fresh, clean unleaded gasoline. Definition of Blended Fuels Today's fuels are often a blend of gasoline and oxygenates such as ethanol, methanol or MTBE (ether). Alcohol-blended fuel absorbs water. As little as 1% water in the fuel can make fuel and oil separate, forming acids when stored. ALWAYS use fresh fuel (less than 30 days old).

These procedures should also be a part of any seasonal tune-up. NOTE: Some maintenance procedures may require special tools or skills.
Cleaning theCuttingHead Cutting Head NOTE: The cutting head will remain attached to the unit. 1. Remove the old line from the cutting head. The line glide plate cannot be removed if there is still line in the cutting head. 2. Insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the locking tab hole and push the locking tab inward (Fig. 17). At the same time, pull the line glide plate out of the cutting head. 3. Use a clean cloth to clean the insides of the cutting head and line glide plate. 4.

CHECKING THE ROCKER ARM CLEARANCE This adjustment requires disassembly of the engine, if you feel unsure or unqualified to perform this, take the unit to a Sears or other qualified service dealer.
