OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Pre-Start
Checklist
Before starting the
engine,
perform
the
following checks and procedures:
See Section t>-PERIODIC MAINTENANCE, Before Every Use.
Your craft
should
be
securely
moored
to the
dock
or
slip.
The
boat should
remain
moored
until
the
engine
is
warmed
up
and
properly
running.
Check
weather
conditions
and
forecasts.
Check all life saving devices. Make
sure
there
is
one
life
jacket
for
each person aboard.
Check capacity
rating
plate
.
Do
not
leave the dock with
an
over
loaded craft!
Open
windows, doors
and
engine
hatch. Check for fuel fumes
and
water in
the
bilge area.
Place MASTER BREAKER
on
the DC
panel
in
the
"ON" position.
Operate the bilge blowers for
at
least
four
minutes before start-
ing the engine. Allow
the
blowers to
run
until cruising speed
is
attained.
Check
engine
oil level.
Check gas fuel valve to make sure fuel
can
flow to the engine.
Head flush water, etc
.,
as
equipped
.
Check steering control,
and
single lever control linkage.
Check
battery
charge.
Check fuel supply.
IMPORTANT
DO
NOT
rely
on
the accuracy
of
the fuel gauge.
Readings are only approximate
and
should
always
be
compared
to the
hours
of
use multiplied
by
the
known fuel
consumption
(GPH).
Check all electrical
components
such
as
the
horn,
lights,
and
bilge
pump
to
be
sure
they are in
proper
working order.
Make sure to disengage
the
shift mechanism (refer
to
engine
manufacturer's manual in
the
skipper's kit) .
