Installation Guide

Congratulations on your purchase of eZflor® Lay in Place Vinyl Flooring. You have purchased
one of the finest flooring products. Please read all the installation instructions prior to use.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
IMPORTANT: eZflor® has a special Free Grip™ coating that holds flooring in place to the
subfloor, but not permanently, making installation easy, fast and clean. If at any time you need to
remove one plank, some or even all of the planks, they come up easily without damaging or
leaving residue on the subfloor. This product should only be used for interior, residential, on-grade
(4” suspended concrete slab) or above grade.
FOR RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR USE ONLY:
DO NOT INSTALL OVER SEALED SUBFLOOR
DO NOT INSTALL OVER RADIANT HEATED FLOOR
DO NOT INSTALL IN EXTERIOR AREAS
DO NOT INSTALL OVER UNSUITABLE SUBFLOORS SUCH AS CHIPBOARD
DO NOT INSTALL OVER SUBFLOORS WHERE MOISTURE EXISTS
DO NOT INSTALL OVER UNEVEN OR BUMPY SUBFLOORS
DO NOT INSTALL IN SUNROOMS
NEVER USE SOLVENT BASED FLOOR PREPARATION, CARE OR FINISHING.
I. PREPARATION:
A.) eZflor® Vinyl Plank can be installed over concrete, existing wood floors, plywood and
smooth tight sheet vinyl or vinyl tile. Surface(s) must be clean smooth, structurally sound,
and moisture free.
B.) TOOLS NEEDED: Shur Tape Lowe’s 256904 (optional), chalk-line, tape measure,
carpenter’s square utility knife/scissors, pencil, broom and latex floor primer, if applicable.
C.) ACCLIMATION: Plank must be kept in a clean, dry area, at room temperature (60°F - 80°F),
for at least 24 hours prior to, during and after installation.
D.) FINAL PREPARATION: If desired, remove all baseboards, wall trims so plank can be
installed flush to walls. At end of installation cover the expansion space with suitable base
molding and/or wall molding.
E.) SUBFLOOR SHOULD BE LEVELED to 1/8” within a 10’ radius. Fill all low areas with a
latex patching compound and let cure for 24 – 36 hrs. High spots should be ground,
chipped or sanded level.
F.) LEVEL AND SMOOTH subfloor with a latex based product that is recommended by
your dealer.
CAUTIONS: Never use solvent type subfloor primers, filler or levelers. ALWAYS USE
LATEX FLOOR PRIMER ON ALL POROUS SURFACES SUCH AS WOOD OR
CONCRETE. DO NOT USE OVER VINYL SUBFLOORS.
G.) DOOR TRIM and jamb moldings should be undercut at about 1/4”. To be sure, place a plank
next to the doorframe or jamb as a guide. Mark and cut.
H.) SCRAPE old subfloor to remove paint, plaster, or other foreign material that would
interfere with a good bond with the eZflor® and the subfloor.
BROOM SWEEP and vacuum the area before beginning installation.
ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES, DUST MASK AND OTHER PROTECTIVE GEAR
WHERE APPLICABLE.
II. SUBFLOORS / SUBFLOOR HINTS
Install over smooth and dry concrete, wood and well-adhered vinyl flooring.
A.) EXISTING FLOOR COVERING:
When installing over existing floor coverings, such as sheet
vinyl or vinyl tile, make sure surface is clean and stripped of all dirt, wax and liquid coatings, and
make sure that the floor covering is completely and tightly secured in place.
B.) UNDERLAYMENT BOARD, such as plywood and other suitable subfloor should be
underlayment grade and have a 1/8” gap around the perimeter. Reminder to always
apply plank to the smooth side of the underlayment material.
C.) CONCRETE SUBFLOORS Always determine if moisture is present before beginning
installation. Your dealer can assist with testing procedure(s); if moisture exists in
slab, apply a moisture barrier (suggested by your dealer) before installing plank.
Concrete slabs containing anti-freeze chemicals, admixtures, quick dry mix or curing com
pounds which are hygroscopic are NOT ACCEPTABLE.
DO NOT INSTALL over previously sealed subfloor. First, strip or cover with sheet vinyl or
other underlayment.
SHEET VINYL AS A MOISTURE BARRIER
If sheet vinyl is to be applied as a moisture barrier or underlayment, do not use a Polyurethane
product. Only use sheet goods suggested by your dealer. Most sheet vinyl is OK to use and
the manufacturer recommends the use of sheet vinyl as a safeguard.
III. INSTALLATION
A. Begin installation parallel to the longest wall starting in the corner. DIAGRAM 1.
If the beginning row does not touch a wall, use two-sided tape (Shur Tape Lowe’s item
#256904) under the first row to anchor the installation.
DIAGRAM 1
B. Make sure the corners of the planks are lined up to keep a straight line.
Complete the installation on the first row including cut pieces. DIAGRAM 2.
(Place cut edge against wall and the factory edge next to the adjoining plank)
To make precise cuts, score top surface of plank with sharp utility knife and a
carpenters square edge, as a guide, then snap plank.
CAUTION: KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM KNIFE BLADE TO AVOID INJURY.
KNIFE CAN SLIP AND CAUSE INJURY.
DIAGRAM 2
C. The second row begins at the center of plank one and two. RANDOMLY STAGGER THE
PLANKS and continue laying planks, while pressing seams tightly together. Staggered
planks should be 6“ or greater. DIAGRAM 3.
DIAGRAM 3
D. Continue to set each row wall to opposite wall, until room is complete. Use a matching
molding at doorways where flooring does not continue to an adjoining room.
Once the plank is in place, IT’S OK TO WALK ON FLOOR IMMEDIATELY. After all the
planks are set you are ready to cover with ¾” round floor finish molding. Moldings may be
stained to match the color of the floor or painted the wall color. Finishing trims can be used
at doorways and other areas where eZflor® meets abutting floors. DIAGRAM 4.
