b) Toreduceriskofbatteryexplosion,followtheseinstructionsandthosepublished
bythebatterymanufacturerandthemanufacturerofany equipment youintend
touseinvicinityofbattery. Review cautionarymarkingontheseproductsand
onengine.

PERSONALPRECAUTIONS
a) Considerhavingsomeonecloseenoughbytocometoyouraidwhenyouwork
near a lead-acidbattery.
b) Haveplentyoffreshwaterandsoapnearbyincasebatteryacidcontactsskin,
clothingoreyes.
c) Wearcompleteeyeprotectionandclothingprotection.Avoidtouchingeyeswhile
workingnearbattery.
d) Ifbatteryacidcontactsskinorclothing,washimmediatelywithsoapandwater.
Ifacidenterseye,immediately floodeyewithrunning cold waterforatleast10
minutesandgetmedicalattentionimmediately.
e) NEVERsmokeorallow a sparkor flameinvicinityofbatteryorengine.
f) Beextracautioustoreduceriskofdropping a metaltoolontobattery.It mightspark
orshort-circuitbatteryorotherelectricalpartthatmaycauseexplosion.
g) Removepersonalmetalitemssuchasrings,bracelets,necklaces,andwatches
whenworkingwithlead-acidbattery. A lead-acidbatterycanproduce a short-cir-
cuitcurrenthighenoughto weld a ringortheliketometal,causing a severeburn.
h) Usechargerforcharging12VLEAD-ACIDbatteriesonly.Itisnotintendedtosup-
plypowerto a lowvoltageelectricalsystemotherthanin a starter-motorapplica-
tion.Donotusebatterychargerforchargingdry-cellbatteriesthatarecommonly
usedwithhomeappliances.These batteries mayburstandcauseinjurytopersons
anddamagetoproperty.
i) Nevercharge a frozenbattery.
