PRODUCT CARE
Problem Cause Remedy
Engine will not start
1. Battery has low voltage
2. Loose or corroded
battery connections
3. Fuse is blown
4. Spark plug wire is loose
or disconnected
5. Faulty spark plug or coil
6. No fuel or improper fuel
7. Plugged fuel filter
8. Defective starter solenoid
9. Open-circuit in wiring
1. Check battery voltage
2. While wearing safety glasses, remove and clean the battery
connections using a wire brush or battery terminal cleaner.
Reinstall the connections, and ensure they are tight by attempting
to “shake/move” them side to side. The connections should
not move or rotate. Thoroughly wash hands after cleaning
or reinstallation.
3. Visually and mechanically inspect all fuses.
4. Refer to Service manual. Remove the spark plug wire and spark
plug. Clean the spark plug as needed and check the Gap setting.
Reinstall the spark plug and spark plug wire. The wire should “click
or snap” onto the spark plug.
5. Refer to item 4.
6. Refer to Service manual. Ensure the unit contains at least 1/4 tank
of clean fuel.

Engine is difficult
to start
1. Plugged fuel filter
2. Engine oil viscosity too heavy
3. Spark plug is fouled
4. Faulty spark plug or wire

7. Engine compression failure
1. Contact your local authorized dealer for service.
2. Refer to label located on top of the air filter, Owner’s or Service
manual or contact your local authorized dealer for service.
3. Remove and clean or replace spark plug. Ensure coil wire is fully
seated during installation.
4. Contact your local authorized dealer for service.
5. Contact your local authorized dealer for service.
6. Refer to Service manual. Ensure the unit contains at least 1/4 tank
of clean fuel.
7. Contact your local authorized dealer for service.
Engine misfires
under load
1. Faulty spark plug
2. Stale or dirty fuel
3. Plugged fuel filter
4. Faulty coil or wire
5. Damaged ECU
1. Remove and clean or replace spark plug. Ensure coil wire is fully
seated during installation.
2. Refer to Service manual. Ensure the unit contains at least 1/4 tank
of clean fuel.

TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING
Before performing any type of maintenance/service, disengage all controls and stop the engine. Wait until all moving parts
have come to a complete stop. Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting.
Always wear safety glasses during operation or while performing any adjustments or repairs.
