Engine Difficult to Start or Will Not Start (No Exhaust Smoke)
Cause Correction

Fuel filter is plugged

Measure the fuel pressure before and after the fuel
filter. Refer to Procedure 006-014 (Fuel Filter -
Canister Type) or Procedure 006-015 (Fuel Filter -
Spin-on) in Section 5.

Go To Next Step
STEP 10
Fuel supply is not adequate
.............
Check the flow through the filter to locate the
source of the restriction. Refer to a Cummins®
Authorized Repair Location.

STEP 11
Fuel pump overflow valve is malfunctioning
.............
Check or replace the return overflow valve. Refer
to the OEM service manual.
OK

STEP 12
Fuel transfer pump malfunctioning
.............
Inspect the fuel transfer pump. Replace if
necessary. Refer to a Cummins® Authorized
Repair Location.

STEP 13
Fuel drain backup

Verify the fuel return line is plumbed to the bottom
of the fuel tank.

Throttle linkage misadjusted or damaged
