Inspect the oil pan support flange, suction tube, and tube
braces for cracks or other damage.
NOTE: If cracks or other damage is found, replace the
damaged part. Do not attempt to repair the oil pan by
welding.
If the suction tube must be replaced, Refer to Procedure
007-035 in Section 7.
For suspended oil pans, inspect the flexible mounting
gasket for cracking, brittleness, and any other damage.
Replace the gasket if damage is found.
Install
If the suction tube has been removed, install the suction
tube. Refer to Procedure 007-035 in Section 7.
For rear gear train engines apply a 2-mm [1/16-inch] bead
of sealant, Part Number 3164070, to the oil pan mounting
surfaces at the cylinder block to front gear cover joints
and the cylinder block to rear gear housing joints.
For front gear train engines, apply a 2-mm [1/16-inch]
bead of sealant, Part Number 3164070, to the oil pan
mounting surfaces at the cylinder block to front gear
housing joint and the cylinder block to rear seal housing
joint.
