GPS satellites in space are programmed to follow exact orbit patterns each day.
Orbit patterns are published each night at midnight by the US government to
the satellites.
Each day your GPS device must download the new orbit pattern first, to know
where to look in the sky for satellites for the rest of the day.
First time you use the device for the day is the longest time it takes to get the
GPS signal.
This time can be shortened by standing still (not moving or driving around),
ideally under an open sky.
Obtaining this first signal could take as much as 1-15 minutes depending on
your environment. However, after the first time, it will only take about 1-5
seconds to re-acquire the GPS signal again on that day, when you turn on your
device.
