The ADSL2+ modems and routers are high-speed Internet connection devices that
provide speeds of up to 24Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream. These speeds
are suitable for high-speed multimedia Internet applications such as streaming video
and voice over the Internet.
The standard host interface on the ADSL2+ modems and routers is Ethernet. Combo
modems and combo routers have additional USB ports that offer the convenience of
extra plug-and-play connection to computers. ADSL2+ modem routers are equipped
with built-in ADSL2+ interfaces and are primarily designed for several computers at
home or in an office to share Internet access. In addition to ADSL line sharing, they
also provide basic firewall functions (SPI and DoS prevention), user access security,
and parental control. In addition, they provide Quality of Service (QoS) based on
priority queues, application ports or user-defined classification (e.g. TCP/UDP/ICM)
to prioritize Internet traffic for smooth running of bandwidth-sensitive applications
such as voice and streaming multimedia.
The ADSL2+ wireless modem routers integrate a wireless LAN access point function
for Wi-Fi equipped users to wirelessly connect to the Internet. For the office, ADSL2+
VPN routers offer hardware-based data encryption via embedded 3DES accelerators,
providing users with secure data transfer over the Internet.
The ADSL2+ VoIP modem routers offer integrated VoIP function for Internet phone
connection, while the ADSL2+ ISDN VoIP routers provide additional ISDN interfaces,
and the ADSL2+ ISDN PBX add IP PBX trunk connections for office use.
