(Option 1) - Connecting your player through RF lead 200-240V~, 50/60 Hz Back view of your player Installation Television Aerial The type of aerial you should use, depends on local interference and how far you are from the transmitter. You should contact a local retailer if you have any questions about your aerial.
Connecting your player through extra equipment (satellite system) ■ Before you start, unplug all the equipment from the mains supply. This will improve sound and picture quality when you are recording from satellite.
Connecting your player to the Hi-Fi system ■ Before you start, unplug all the equipment from the mains supply. Option 1 Installation Television Aerial Hi-Fi 200-240V~, 50/60 Hz Plug a phono cable into the “Audio L/R” sockets on the back panel and into the audio sockets on any audio amplifier, if needed. If your player does not have this connection, see page 15. Player You can also use a scart lead to improve picture and sound quality from your player.

OSD ON & OFF OSD (On Screen Display) ON & OFF This player is set to “OSD (On Screen Display) ON” mode before shipping and you can change it to OFF mode. 1 Call up the player’s "SETUP" menu. If you want OSD OFF mode, select it and press [OK] button to confirm.
DVD Playback 1 Press [ ] button to power on. Press [DVD] button of REMOTE to select DVD mode. 2 Press [OPEN/CLOSE] button to open the disc tray. Place a disc firmly on the disc tray, ensuring the disc’s label is uppermost. 3 Insert the disc and press [OPEN/CLOSE] button to close the tray. 4 To play the disc, press [PLAY/PAUSE] button. The disc tray will close and after initialisation, Playback or Stop function starts to operate.
VCR Playback 1 2 3 Press [ ] button to power on. Press [VCR] button of remote control to change to VCR mode. Insert the desired tape. If you want to playback, press [PLAY/PAUSE] button. When the operational status is flickering, adjust [TRACKING +/-] button. To stop it, press [ 5 Press [EJECT] button on the front part of the unit or [OPEN/CLOSE] button on remote control to eject the tape. Basic Operation 4 ] button. Recording To Copy From DVD To Videotape 1 2 3 Insert the desired DVD disc. When the DVD disc is copyright protected, you can’t copy it. If DVD disc is not copy protected then insert a blank tape. Press [REC] button during playing of DVD. DVD plays and VCR starts recording. If you press STOP [ ] button in DVD mode, DVD and VCR will stop at the same time. Basic Operation If you press STOP [ ] button in VCR mode, VCR stops to record and DVD continues to play.
Tuning in New Stations ■ The TV and player are switched on. ■ To see the picture from your player, press the input or AV (Audio/Video) button on the TV. Tuning 1 To complete the set-up of your video recorder when the auto set has not stored all of the channels or when you wish to store a new channel. Change the letters with the [PR +/–] buttons, œ /√ √] buttons. move to the next letter with the [œ 3 Store and exit. Select NAME position. Press the [0] button to change the given name.
Timer Recording ■ For timer recordings, clock, date, and stations must be set correctly. ■ Load a cassette with its safety tab in place and with sufficient free space for the recording. The counter does not count unrecorded parts of the tape. ■ If you rewind beyond the zero position, the counter counts in negative values (e.g. – 0:01:15). More Functions Child lock Press the [ ] button for about 5 seconds. No buttons on the front panel can be operated now and LOCK INDICATOR (“ ”) will be displayed on the window display. Keep your remote control in a safe place. To release child lock, press any button on the remote control. Cassettes PAL Use only good quality tape cassettes with the VHS logo.
More Functions ■ The player records the complete sound signal transmitted by the TV station. ■ On the mono VCR, you will hear the normal mono sound. The Hi-Fi system (SH-9810P &SH-9840P only) In addition to the normal mono sound track of VHS video recorders, your player is equipped with a highquality Hi-Fi sound system.
Connections and Copying ■ If you are using a SCART cable, select the AV input on the TV to see the picture from the player. ■ If you are not using a SCART cable, select the programme number on the TV reserved for video input to see the picture from the player. To the TV via antenna cable (if you are not using a SCART cable) If you are not using a SCART cable, your player can transmit pictures and sound to the TV via the coax aerial cable.
Connections and Copying ■ Switch off all components when connecting or disconnecting cables. Copying To copy to your player from another video machine, connect the two machines with a cable between their EURO AV (SCART) sockets and select as programme "AV 1/AV 2" or “F. AV” (front sockets) using the [AV], [PR+/-] or [INPUT] button. Set the other video machine to playback and your machine to record. •To connect a mono audio source, use the front Audio In socket marked L.

Press [❚œœPREV] button. The current scene moves to the previous chapter (or track) or first scene of current chapter (or track). Moving directly to a desired title ■ Some movie discs may contain multiple titles.

Playing a desired scene Searching DVD with a title number, a chapter number or a time ➟ total title number ➟ current chapter number 001/023 total chapter number 01:03:20 ➟ 3 If you want to search with a time, press [SEARCH] button three times. Please enter the new time to be searched using the [NUMBER] buttons. After completing the enteries, please press [ENTER] button. PLAY starts from the selected position. 001/003 ➟ 2 If you want to search with a chapter number, press [SEARCH] button twice.

It shows current and total track numbers. Please enter the new track number to be searched using the [NUMBER] button. ➟ 1 If you want to search with a track number, press [SEARCH] button once. total track number * If PBC is ON, pressing track number converts PBC to OFF mode automatically.
Confirming the current PLAY mode on screen Confirming the current DVD disc mode While in playing, press [DISPLAY] button. It shows the current disc mode. If you want to change the mode, select the item with up/down (…†) cursor and enter the new settings with [number], [œ] or [√] button. After completing the enteries, press [ENTER] button. To exit from Display mode, press [DISPLAY] button again.
Confirming the current PLAY mode on screen Confirming the current VCD disc mode While in playing, press [DISPLAY] button. It shows the current disc mode. If you want to change the mode, select the item with up/down (…†) cursor and enter the new settings with [number], [œ] or [√] button. After completing the enteries, press [ENTER] button. To exit from Display mode, press [DISPLAY] button again.
Selecting an AUDIO language, SUBTITLE language and 3D AUDIO Selecting an audio language ■ The user may select an audio language and subtitle language if a disc includes Multi-language. A certain disc may not support audio select or subtitle select. Keep pressing [AUDIO] button till the user’s preferred language appears in playback mode. If DVD disc includes audio information, every time the user presses [AUDIO] button, English (ENG), French (FRE), Spanish (SPA) and others appear sequentially.
Selecting ZOOM and Multi Angle Using a zoom function ■ The user can enlarge the current screen about 2 or 4 times. • During zoom mode, subtitle language can’t be seen. Keep pressing [ZOOM] button till the preferred zoom appears. Every time the user presses [ZOOM] button, the zoom magnification changes 2 times (X2) ➝ 4 times (X4) ➝ OFF ➝ 2 times (X2) ➝ ... in sequence. A base area to be enlarged is centralised and the area can be changed with the operation of the [œ √…†] buttons.
About MP3, CDDA, JPG and MPG discs Playing a disc containing MP3 or CDDA files This unit will play MP3 or CDDA files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. 1 Turn on your television and select the channel assigned to this DVD player. Press the DVD open [OPEN/CLOSE] button, the disc tray opens. Put a MP3 or CDDA disc on the disc tray with the label side up. Press the DVD open [OPEN/CLOSE] button, the disc tray closes. The unit will take a short while to load the disc and display the directory structure.
About MP3, JPG and MPG discs 5 6 Repeat playback mode. Every time you press [REPEAT], repeat playback mode changes as follows: Repeat one ➝ Repeat all ➝ Random ➝ OFF ➝ ... Or select by pressing [√ †] and press [ENTER]. The selected file or folder will playback repeatedly. You can programme playback. Select the file to programme. Then press [PROGRAM]. The selected file will go into PROGRAM folder. Press [PLAY] or [ENTER] in PROGRAM folder.
About MP3, JPG and MPG discs Playing a disc containing JPG (PHOTO) files This unit will play JPG files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. 1 Select the desired folder. Move the cursor to the desired folder by pressing […†] and press [ENTER] to confirm. PICTURE > JPG ■ 000/000 0:00:00 / 0:00:00 LIST PREVIEW DESKTOP PHOTO TEMPORAR TRASH \ 2 Slideshow Delay Time set. Select “ Slideshow &Delay Time” function. Then press [ENTER] to adjust the slideshow delay time from 0FF to 10 seconds.

Move the cursor to the desired folder by pressing […†] and press [ENTER] to confirm. MOVIE ■ 0/00 0:00:00 / 0:00:00 LIST PREVIEW DESKTOP MOVIE TEMPORAR TRASH \ 2 Select the desired MPG file. Move the cursor to the desired MPG file. Then press [ENTER] or [PLAY] button to playback. * Only MPG file is listed.
Displaying menus on a disc To display menus on a disc ■ If a disc includes menus, the user may display them. 1 Press [MENU] button. • In the case of a DVD disc, it shows the menus on the disc. Also they are different according to the discs. • If it is a VCD2.0, select PBC ON mode by pressing [TITLE/PBC] button. * CD and VCD1.1 do not support the function. 2 If it is a DVD disc, move the cursor to the relevant item with the arrow buttons [œ √…†] and select one with [ENTER] button or [PLAY] button.
Language Setup ■ A user can set OSD language, Audio, Subtitle and Disc Menu. “OSD” means “On Screen Display”. 1 While in STOP or RESUME STOP mode, press [SETUP] button. 2 Selecting an OSD language. Select an OSD language to be displayed on DVD menus with [ENTER]. 3 Selecting Audio language. Set your preferred audio language with [ENTER]. If the audio language is set and recorded on the DISC, it is automatically played back in the set language every time it is played.
Language Setup 5 Selecting Disc Menu language. Set your preferred DISC MENU language with [ENTER]. If the DISC MENU language is set and recorded on the DISC, it is automatically played back in the set language every time it is played. OTHERS - - - - : Another language can be selected. You can input a 4-digit language code. Refer to the language codes. Press [CLEAR] if an incorrect language code is entered.
Video Setup ■ A user can set up a connected TV and screen size condition. 1 While in STOP or RESUME STOP mode, press [SETUP] button. 2 Selecting TV Aspect. Set your preferred TV ASPECT ratio with [ENTER] button. If a user selects “4:3 PS”, the user can watch only a centre of the original scene of “16:9”. If a user selects “4:3 LB”, the user can watch the original scene of “16:9”, but the top and bottom of the screen look black color.
Audio Setup ■ A user may select an audio menu according to the speaker set being used. 1 While in STOP or RESUME STOP mode, press [SETUP] button. DIGITAL OUT DYNAMIC RANGE BITSTREAM OFF 2 Select a Digital Output. Set audio output to coaxial or optical. You can set the outgoing digital signal to BITSTREAM or LPCM: DIGITAL OUT DYNAMIC RANGE BITSTREAM LPCM ✓ • BITSTREAM : The raw audio signal recorded on the disc goes to the digital audio output.
Other Setup 1 While in STOP or RESUME STOP mode, press [SETUP] button. 2 Select character display window. Select "On" to make the OSD (On Screen Display) language appear on screen. 3 Select screensaver. If bright scenes continue to be displayed on screen, the TV can be damaged. If the screen saver is set to “ON” and the resume stop, stop, or open status is maintained for about 5 minutes, the screensaver will function automatically causing the DVD logo to move continuously. 4 Restoring DEFAULTS.
Other Setup 6 Changing a password. To change your password, move the cursor to “PASSWORD” and press [√]. Enter your current password. OSD SCREEN SAVER DEFAULTS PARENTAL PASSWORD INPUT PASSWORD ---OK Then enter a new password and press [ENTER]. CANCEL OSD SCREEN SAVER DEFAULTS PARENTAL PASSWORD INPUT PASSWORD ---- Confirm the new password. OSD SCREEN SAVER DEFAULTS PARENTAL PASSWORD Now your password is changed.

About DVD Handling Disc • • • • Keep the disc clean and in good condition. Handle with care. Do not put sticky paper or tape on it. Do not expose a disc to direct sunlight or other forms of heating. After using the disc, please replace it in its case. Cleaning Disc • Before using the disc, please wipe it from its centre outwards, using a clean, soft cloth. • Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzol (benzene), commercial cleaning goods or antistatic spray.
