First you need to identify your antenna’s lead type: • If you are using the antenna that also has 300-ohm twin flat leads, (see the illustration below) see “Antennas With 300-ohm Flat Twin Leads,”on this page. Antennas With 300-ohm Flat Twin Leads 2 If you use a 300-ohm antenna with twin flat leads, follow the directions below.

Choose one of the sections below for connecting a cable system.

AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 9 INSTALLATION Installing Batteries in the Remote Control 1 2 Open the battery cover by pressing on the back cover’s tab and lifting up. Install two AA size batteries. Make sure to match the + and – ends of the batteries with the diagram inside the compartment. 3 Replace the cover. ✓ If you won’t be using the remote control for a long time, remove the batteries and store them in a cool, dry place. ✓ Batteries last for about one year.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM CHAPTER THREE Page 10 TV OPERATION Viewing the On-screen Display The on-screen displays automatically appear on the screen when you turn the TV/VCR on or change its status (from stop to play, from play to stop, etc.). You can also activate the on-screen displays manually by using the remote control. 1 With the power on, press DISPLAY. 2 3 Press DISPLAY again (while the display items are still on the TV/VCR screen) to display the time counter.

Storing Channels in Memory 1 Press VOL– or VOL+ to select “Antenna,” “Cable STD,” “Cable HRC,” or “Cable IRC.” ✔ If your TV/VCR is connected to an antenna, select “Antenna.

For example, to select channel 8, press 0, then 8. • When entering three-digit channels, press the +100 button on the remote control first. Your TV/VCR has preset standard values for picture settings (contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, and tint). You can also customize these settings. Sequence : ATL., HAW., ALAS, PAC., MTN., CEN., EAST. 7 Press CH button to select the “DST”(Daylight Savings Time) field.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 15 TV OPERATION Setting the Sleep Timer Using the On/Off Timer The sleep timer automatically turns off the TV/VCR at the time you select. This is convenient if you like to fall asleep with the television on. 1 With the main menu on the screen, press CH or CH until “Setup” is highlighted. 2 Press VOL+. This timer turns the TV/VCR on or off at a specific time. You may set the on time, the off time, or both the on and the off time.

If the power is off when you insert a tape, the TV/VCR turns on automatically. If the safety tab of your video tape has been removed, the tape begins to play automatically. To insert a video tape: 1 Hold the video tape windowside up, with the arrow pointing away from you. 2 16 Don’t try to insert a tape upside down or backwards.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 17 VCR OPERATION Playing a Video Tape, continued Using Picture Search Using Tracking Using the Time Counter Picture Search lets you quickly search a pre-recorded video tape for a particular scene. 1 While playing a tape, press and release FF or REW. The images from the tape are displayed on the screen at a high speed. This technique is useful if you are searching a small amount of tape.

Recording 1 Using P.PLUS ✔ Be sure the record safety tab is in place. For information on the record safety tab, see page 33. Press P.PLUS to compensate for a poor rental tape. The letter “M” appears beside the time counter.

This is especially helpful if you want to record a program without commercials. 1 Be sure you have begun recording and that the record indicator light on the front panel is lit. 2 Press P.

Use the CH or CH buttons to select One Time Program, Daily Program, or Weekly Program. Press VOL+. The type of programming you choose will be displayed in the first line of the on-screen display. In the following example, “One Time Program” has been chosen.

Press VOL+ to lock in the minute. Press CH to highlight “Start Date.” 10 Press VOL+. 12 Press VOL+. ✔ The TV/VCR automatically selects AM or PM for the ending time. 9 Press VOL+. The date will blink. Use CH or CH to select the date to begin recording. 11 Press VOL+.

The information for the first program appears on the screen.

The Demonstration Mode displays all on-screen menus and programmable features. 1 With the main menu on the screen, press CH until “VCR Setup” is highlighted. 4 5 2 Press VOL+. The TV/VCR cycles through the various menus and settings available. Follow the previous steps to turn off the Demonstration Mode.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 24 SPECIAL FEATURES Using Block Repeat Block Repeat allows you to repeat a section of tape that you select. You can repeat this section of tape (the “block”) from one to ten times, or endlessly. “Repeat” section should be set up at a minimum ten-second interval. 1 With the VCR Setup menu on the screen, press CH to highlight “Block Repeat.” Press VOL+ to select the number of times you want your “block” to repeat.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 25 SPECIAL FEATURES Viewing Closed Captions, continued ✔ In text mode, information unrelated to the captions is displayed, such as news or weather. Text often covers a large portion of the screen. 4 If you wish, use CH , CH , or VOL+ to change the channel or field. Then, press MENU to return to normal viewing. ✔ Different channels display different information. For example, Channel 1 may have subtitles in English, while Channel 2 has subtitles in Spanish.

Press CH button 6 times, so that “V-Chip” is highlighted. (When V-Chip is highlighted, the letters change to red.) Press the VOL + button. The “Enter PIN” screen will appear. Enter your 4-digit PIN number. The “V-Chip mode” screen will appear, and “V-Chip lock” will be highlighted (red color).

Press MENU once to save the TV guidelines. A TVRating will be highlighted (RED), and no letters will blink. To exit this screen, press MENU again. To select a different TV-Rating, press CH or CH and then repeat the process. Note 1: The TV-Y7, TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA have additional options.

Press the CH button, and highlight the field for “MPAA rating” and “to begin.” While “MPAA rating” is highlighted, press the VOL + button. The “MPAA rating” screen will appear. 6 Repeatedly press the CH button to highlight aparticular MPAA category. Pressing the CH button will cycle through the MPAA categories: G: General audience (no restrictions).
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 8:52 AM Page 29 SPECIAL FEATURES Copying, or Dubbing, a Video Dubbing To make a copy, or “dub,” of another video tape, you need: • your TV/VCR • a separate VCR (or camcorder) • two A/V cables with connectors. (You can find these at most electronics supply stores.) Important warning: One Federal Court has held that unauthorized recording of copyrighted TV programs may be an infringement of copyright laws.
AA68-00951A/eng 10/26/00 CHAPTER SIX 8:52 AM TROUBLESHOOTING Identifying TV Problems Poor picture, no picture, blurred picture, or blue screen. • Try another channel. Make sure the unit is plugged into a working wall outlet. • Adjust the antenna. • Press LINE IN. • Check all wire connections. Poor sound quality. • Try another channel. • Adjust the antenna. No color, wrong colors or tints. • Make sure the program is broadcast in color. • Adjust the picture settings. Picture rolls vertically.
