Etch (if necessary)
If the concrete is new, very smooth or efflorescent (salts leaching out
of the surface), etching will be required to clean out the surface pores
and add surface tooth for better grab of the coating.
1) Rinse away any excessive dirt before etching. If indoors, wash the
floor with DAICH All-In-One Concrete Cleaner/Etcher or other suitable
concrete cleaner (eg. TSP).
2) ETCH... WITH DAICH ALL-IN-ONE
CLEANER/ETCHER
(a) Dampen the concrete with a water hose.
(b) Working in sections, pour DAICH Cleaner/
Etcher directly onto dampened concrete at full
concentration and distribute with a deck brush or
broom, scrubbing lightly. (c) Allow it to work on the
surface for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
(REPEAT ETCHING IF THE CONCRETE IS A GARAGE FLOOR
OR IS VERY SMOOTH OR NEW). The concrete must have a profile
similar to 150 grit sandpaper.
3) ALTERNATIVE ETCH WITH MURIATIC ACID (outdoors only)
(a) Mix an etching solution in an empty bucket — two parts water to
one part muriatic acid. (POUR ACID INTO WATER). Stir the contents
gently. (b) Dampen the concrete with a water hose. (c) Working in
sections, pour the etching solution onto the damp concrete and
distribute with a stiff broom, scrubbing lightly. Allow solution to work
on the surface for a few minutes and gently rinse away. **Follow
acid manufacturer’s safety instructions.** (Repeat etching if the
concrete is a garage floor or is very smooth).
Wash
Exterior concrete surfaces must be thoroughly clean and dry, free from
dirt, dust, paint, glue, mold, mildew, sealers, efflorescence, oil and any
contaminants. Two optional methods for cleaning are:
OPTION#1 - PRESSURE WASH: For
easiest and most effective cleaning results,
use a minimum 1800 psi pressure washer
to thoroughly remove embedded dirt and all
cleaner and etching residues. Hold the tip 6
inches from the surface and use a SLOW
sweeping motion across the surface.
When pressure washing is complete. Let
the surface dry 1-2 hours before application
(longer in cool, damp or humid conditions).
OPTION#2 - MANUAL SCRUB: If pressure washing is not an
available option, scrub the surface with a stiff broom and a strong
solution of DAICH CLEANER/ETCHER (or TSP). Rinse well to remove all
cleaning chemicals, and other residues. If drainage is inadequate, use
a wet-vac to pull rinse water off the surface.
Interior Concrete: Mop or scrub the surface with a stiff broom and
DAICH CLEANER/ETCHER or strong TSP solution. Rinse well or mop
with clean water until rinse water is clear. If drainage is not available,
lift water away with a wet-vac.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
RollerRock is not a repair product. Some surface imperfections may
need to be ground away with an angle grinder or a rub brick – or
repaired with repair material (per manufacturers instructions) or they
may transmit through the final finish.
Broom Finished Concrete - Broom finished concrete can cause
adhesion problems for thicker coatings like RollerRock. If the concrete
is broom finished with deep grooves, apply a coat of DAICH
ElastoLock
®
Rubber Membrane in the same direction of the broom
texture to partially fill the texture and encourage optimal adhesion.
Previous Coatings – Apply water to the surface. If water absorbs,
the concrete is uncoated. If water beads, a coating is present and
must be removed. Use appropriate strippers or mechanical abrasion
following manufacturer’s instructions and precautions. Follow with
etching and pressure washing.
Excessive Moisture – Apply a 16” square piece of plastic to a
section of the concrete to be coated. Tape down edges carefully with
duct tape. After 24 hours remove tape and look for water droplets on
the plastic or wet appearance (darkness) in the concrete. If these signs
are present, there is excessive moisture trapped in the concrete and it
should not be coated.

COATING APPLICATION
The following steps must be applied to a dry, clean surface
at temperatures between 50º F (10º C) – 85º F (30º C) in dry
conditions. Do not attempt in direct, hot sunlight. Morning and
late afternoon or shady conditions are best.
RollerRock
®
RollerRock is applied in one of two finishes:
1) Stone Texture (applied with the “Stone Texture Roller”)
2) Tile Texture (applied with the “Tile Texture Roller”).
STONE TEXTURE FINISH...
The stone texture finish is most popular with the highest
coverage rate at up to 100 sq.ft. per gallon, per coat. It is
used for most exterior surfaces and also for garage floors,
where a tough, attractive slip-resistant finish is desired.
Step One: Roll a uniform coat of RollerRock
in 4 x 4 ft. sections using the Stone Texture
Roller. As you go, lightly cross-roll over the
wet material a few times to remove any
imperfections. Allow it to dry several hours.
Test the surface before walking on it.
Step Two: Roll on a second coat using the same method as
step one. This will fill imperfections from the first application
and make the surface look uniformly solid and stone-like.
TILE TEXTURE FINISH...
The tile texture finish is used mainly for interior floor surfaces,
including garage floors and basements, when a slightly less
textured, tile-like result is preferred. Tile texture coverage
averages 60-70 sq.ft. per gallon, per coat.
Step One: Roll product uniformly onto the
surface with the Tile Texture Roller. Press
firmly while rolling. Apply in a continuous
“V” pattern. As you go, lightly cross-roll over
the surface as you progress to feather out
imperfections. Allow it to dry several hours. Test the surface
before walking on it.
Step Two: Roll on a second coat using the same method. Very
minor flaws will usually disappear by themselves as the coating
settles out and dries. In warm outdoor conditions allow to cure
for 24 hours (48 hours in cool, damp or humid conditions -
and on interior and garage floors).
Application of a clear coat/sealer is the final step of the
RollerRock coating system. This stage adds a final protective
barrier to dirt, water and chemicals. Choose one of the
following for your requirements...
HI-BUILD ULTRA – SATIN MULTI-PURPOSE
For interior and exterior applications, is an excellent
high performance urethane-enhanced sealer for bare
concrete and over all Daich decorative stone coatings. Apply
two coats 12 hours apart for best long-term performance.
DAIHARD GARAGE & DRIVEWAY SEALER
For interior and exterior use. A high performance,
hot-tire resistant semi-gloss sealer for use over bare
concrete and all Daich decorative stone coatings. Apply two
coats 12 hours apart for best performance.
DAIHARD EPOXY CLEAR COAT – The choice for
heaviest duty performance for GARAGE, UTILITY AND
INTERIOR FLOORS – Excellent for hot tires, chemicals,
foot traffic and interior cleanability. Interior use only.
CURE TIMES AND SEALING:
RollerRock must cure 24 hours prior to sealer application. Seal
at temperatures between 50ºF to 85ºF (10º-30ºC). Do not apply
in direct hot sun.
In cool, damp or humid conditions, curing time must be
doubled to 48 hours. Curing for 48 hours is also necessary
for Tile Texture finishes, which apply product more thickly.
RollerRock must dry to optimum hardness before sealer is
applied. You may walk on your dry finish while it cures – as
long as you don’t get it dirty prior to sealing.
Primer
(optional)
RollerRock is self-priming and generally does not
require primer for seamless applications. Textured
Primer, however, IS USED for projects with a decorative tile or
flagstone effect using DAICH stencil tapes. (It can also be used
when an additional reinforced stone coating layer is desired for
greatest strength in heavier duty or high traffic areas.)
1) DAICH Textured Primer is applied with standard painting
methods. Apply primer along edges with a brush and roll onto
the remaining area using a 1/2” roller. Apply uniformly without
a heavy texture. Primer dries within 1-2 hours (longer in damp
or cool weather).
Creating Grout Lines with Textured Primer – You can
create the illusion of tile or flagstone in your project by laying
down a decorative grout line pattern over a surface pre-
primed with DAICH Textured Primer. Grout line patterns
create a dimensional stone tile or slab effect that looks great
on larger surfaces like garage floors, pool decks, etc.
• For floor tile patterns, use 1/4 inch “Grout Line Pattern Tape”
for best adhesion and clean results.
• For natural flagstone effects, use DAICH Flagstone Stencil
Tape for a natural looking effect.
**Allow primer to dry fully for several hours or until the
following day prior to taping to ensure good adhesion of
stencil tape.
** For best results, brush primer in the same color over
the grout tape to further lock it down and avoid seepage.
