Explanation: The National Electrical Code® specifies that switches not disconnect the
“grounded conductor”, which is the negative. So, we are switching only the positive. Using both
sets of contacts as shown (in series) will extinguish the arc (spark) that forms when the contacts
break. This greatly increases switch reliability.
