OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
“DOLPHIN” FLOATING PUMP
WARNING: Do not use this pump for hose testing.
Check engine oil level before starting engine. Read engine instructions before usage.
PREPARATIONS FOR PUMPING
This pump is equipped with a mechanical seal. Do not run pump dry or at high speed if not placed in water of
adequate depth.
Connect discharge hose to pump. Start engine. Place float pump in water immediately after starting. Float
pump is self-priming. The pump will prime more quickly if engine is run at lower speeds. Open engine throttle
once the pump is primed and discharging water.
CAUTION: Do not allow unusual elevation of discharge hose which may cause float to overturn.
When pumping salt water or dirty water, flush pump with clean water after usage.
PUMP DISASSEMBLY
Drain oil and gas from engine. Remove the (4) bolts holding the support plate (6) to the float (5). Remove
the engine, pump and discharge pipe by tilting the engine forward and lift assembly clear of float. The suction
head (11) may now be removed from pump casing (8) using the tapped pusher holes if necessary. Remove
impeller bolt (15). Insert clean rope into engine spark plug hole to prevent engine rotation during removal of
impeller bolt.
Remove impeller (16) by threading long 9/16” - 12 NC pusher blot into tapped hole occupied by impeller
bolt. Do not force impeller, use penetrating oil on engine shaft if impeller will not move. The mechanical seal
(17) may be inspected and replaced if necessary when the impeller is removed. Pump casing should be removed
only if necessary to replace pump pilot (20).
To reassemble pump, reverse order of disassembly. Inspect and replace worn or damaged parts. Hold
impeller key in place with grease, or never-seize and slide impeller into place. Do not lubricate mechanical seal
face during reassembly of pump. Use Loctite 243 or equivalent on all pump related fasteners.
