Deciding Which Options to Change
The previous page shows a printout of the printer’s factory settings. In this printout,
options are listed by functional group:
MACRO 1 and MACRO 2 functions
INSTALL function
ADJUST function
MENU-ACCES function
Most selectable values only alter print features such as the type style and page format.
Some values must be selected correctly for the printer to work properly with your
hardware and software, however. For each function, the following table lists options
whose values must be selected correctly for your system and printer.
Required Options
Function Option Value
MACRO 1
MACRO 2
PROTOCOL The protocol selected on the printer must
be the same as the protocol selected in
your software. If you selected a protocol
when you set up the printer, you do not
need to change the PROTOCOL option
unless you want to change to a different
protocol.
For MACRO 1, the factory setting is PORT
DEPND (Port Dependent). This means that
the active protocol depends on which port
is actually used by the printer. The protocol
for the serial port (PRTCL SERL) is factory
set to DEC PPL2, and the protocol for the
parallel port (PRTCL PARL) is factory set to
EPSON-ESCP.
For MACRO 2, the factory setting is also
PORT DEPND. The protocol for the serial
port (PRTCL SERL) is also set to DEC
PPL2, but the protocol for the parallel port
(PRTCL PARL) is factory set to IBM
PPX24.
See the section “Changing Macro 1 and
Macro 2 Options” later in this chapter.
