CHAPTER 25: FLASHING THE BIOS
Flashing the BIOS from a CD
Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in and that the main battery is 1.
installed properly.
NOTE: If you use a BIOS upgrade CD to ash the BIOS, set up the computer
to boot from a CD before inserting the CD.
Insert the BIOS upgrade CD, and restart the computer. 2.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. e computer continues
to boot and updates the new BIOS. When the ash update is complete, the
computer will automatically reboot.
Press <F2> during POST to enter the system setup program.3.
Select the 4. Exit menu.
Select 5. Load Setup Defaults to reset the computer defaults.
Remove the BIOS upgrade CD from the drive.6.
Select 7. Exit Saving Changes to save conguration changes.
e BIOS upgrade nishes and the computer restarts automatically.8.

CAUTION: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a
wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal
surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).

your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™
is not covered by your warranty.
CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main
battery (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 11) before working
inside the computer.
If a BIOS upgrade CD is provided with the new system board, ash the BIOS from
the CD. If you do not have a BIOS upgrade CD, ash the BIOS from the hard drive.
