Getting Started
This chapter describes how you start conguring your operating software.
When you power up the chassis, the system performs a power-on self test (POST) and loads the Dell Networking operating software. Boot
messages scroll up the terminal window during this process. No user interaction is required if the boot process proceeds without
interruption.
When the boot process completes, the system status LED remains online (green) and the console monitor displays the EXEC mode
prompt.
The switch can have maximum of 2 RPM cards and 10 Line cards. If the switch contains 2 RPM cards, one RPM is elected as master RPM.
The second RPM becomes the standby. By default, slot 0 RPM becomes the master RPM. You manage the switch through the master
RPM session using the console or Telnet.
For details about using the command line interface (CLI), refer to the Accessing the Command Line section in the Conguration
Fundamentals chapter.
