SMI-S
The Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) is a standard interface specification developed by the Storage
Networking Industry Association (SNIA). Based on the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-Based Enterprise
Management (WBEM) standards, SMI-S defines common protocols and data models that enable interoperability between
storage vendor software and hardware.

SMI-S Provider
The SMI-S Provider is included with the Data Collector. You can configure SMI-S during initial Data Collector installation
or post-installation by modifying the Data Collector properties. When SMI-S is enabled and configured, the Data Collector
automatically installs and manages the SMI-S Provider; no additional installation is required.
NOTE:
The Storage Manager Data Collector must be installed in a Microsoft Windows environment. SMI-S is not supported
on a Virtual Appliance.
