MX-IOM Hardware Replacement
Pre-requisites
NOTE: Prior to any IOM replacement activity, contact Dell technical support.
The firmware image should be uploaded to SCP server which is reachable across the network.
It is mandatory to have console access to connect to the IOM.
Before inserting the IOM into the chassis, ensure that you are able to monitor the boot up through console access. The image
needs to be uploaded onto SCP Server which is accessible from the IOM.
Console connection to the IOM is mandatory to mitigate any latency issues which could cause the user on remote console to
miss the output being shown in the console.
To replace the IOM hardware:
1. After the above prerequisite are met, insert the IOM into the chassis and monitor the GRUB menu to show up on the
console.
2. After the GRUB menu is visible, select the ONIE option and then select ONIE uninstall OS option.
3. After ONIE uninstall process is completed, IOM boots into ONIE install OS mode.
4. From the ONIE install OS mode, copy the image file from the file server and perform an ONIE image install.
View SmartFabric Services configuration
A SmartFabric is a network fabric that consists of physical resources, such as servers and switches and logical resources
networks, templates, and uplinks. SmartFabric Services is an OS10 feature enabled on PowerEdge MX Ethernet I/O modules.
When you create a SmartFabric using the OpenManage Enterprise - Modular (OME-Modular) user interface, the switches
assigned to the fabric are automatically placed in SmartFabric mode. In SmartFabric mode, PowerEdge MX switches operate as
Layer 2 I/O aggregation devices with complete interoperability with all major network equipment vendors.
Use the OME-Modular interface to configure PowerEdge MX networking in SmartFabric mode. For more information, see:
