4 iDRAC9 vs. iDRAC8 RESTful API Capabilities | 491
Executive summary
OpenManage Portfolio helps IT administrators deploy, update, monitor, and manage IT assets and to quickly
respond to issues. This helps them manage Dell EMC PowerEdge servers efficiently in physical, virtual, local,
and remote environments by using in-band and out-of-band technologies. iDRAC is at the core of OpenManage
offerings.
iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller provides a range of standards-based Applications Programming Interfaces (APIs)
that enable scalable and automated management of Dell EMC PowerEdge servers. Standard Systems
Management APIs have been developed by organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE) and Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF). These APIs are widely used by commercial
Systems Management products and by custom programs and scripts developed by IT staff to automate
management functions such as discovery, inventory, health status checking, configuration, update, and power
management. The iDRAC RESTful API provides a modern, secure, and scalable interface for PowerEdge server
management, supporting both the DMTF Redfish standard and value-added Dell EMC APIs. This technical
whitepaper provides a comparison of iDRAC9 vs. iDRAC8 RESTful APIs.
