Setup Guide
DHCP Server
To congure the DHCP server use the following information.
Conguring the DHCP Server Settings
Before you can use BMP mode on a switch, rst congure a DHCP server.
To assign an IP address to the system and other parameters, congure the DHCP server. For more information, see the Dell EMC
Networking OS Conguration Guide, the Dynamic Host Conguration Protocol chapter.
• Congure the DHCP server with the following set of parameters for each client switch.
Update the following parameters on the appropriate DHCP server:
• Boot File Name — the Dell EMC Networking OS image loaded on the system. Option 67 in the DHCP oer is the boot
lename; the lename is BOOTP payload. If you specify both, option 67 is used. The system supports the TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS,
SFTP, SCP, FTP, FLASH, and USBFLASH protocols.
• Configuration File Name — the congurations applied to the system. The conguration lename is expected to use option
209. To congure the device by itself for a download conguration le, you can also create a preconguration script in option 209.
• File Server Address — the server where the image and congurations les are placed. The address is assumed to be a
TFTP address unless it is given as a URL. The system supports the TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP, SCP, and FTP protocols, as well as
les stored in ash.
• Domain Name Server (Optional) — the DNS server contacted to resolve the host name.
• IP Address — dynamic IP address for the system. Use this IP address for le transfers only.
The following lists the DHCP option codes.
DHCP Option
Codes
Description
6 Domain Name Server IP
60 Vendor class identier
61 Class identier
66 TFTP Server name
67 Boot lename
150 TFTP server IP address
209 Conguration le
230 User port stacking
NOTE: BMP eventually exits when a timeout occurs.
In the following scenarios, BMP requests a dierent DHCP oer.
• If the oer contains only a boot image that cannot be downloaded, BMP requests another DHCP oer.
• If you enable the reload-type config-scr-download enable command and the conguration le in the oer cannot be
downloaded, BMP requests another DHCP oer.
