Service Manual

Open Management Infrastructure
Dell Networking OS supports the Open Management Infrastructure (OMI) framework. OMI is supported on
the S4810, S4820T, S3048–ON, S4048–ON, S5000, S6000, S6000–ON, S6100–ON, Z9100–ON, and Z9500
platforms.
Overview
OMI is an open source package which manages infrastructure components such as servers, storage, and
networking. OMI supports the distributed management task force (DMTF) common information model (CIM) /
web-based enterprise management (WBEM) standards. To manage the configurations received through OMI,
the Dell Networking OS uses the representational state transfer (REST) interface. OMI also uses the Python
and Ruby libraries of the SmartScripts package.
The desired state configuration (DSC) is a new management platform in Windows PowerShell. It deploys and
manages configuration data for software services and manages the environment in which these services run.
The switches support the switch view class schema to declaratively configure Ethernet switches using the
DSC.
The managed object format (.MOF) corresponds to the windows managed object files. You can configure the
definition of classes and instances in the MOF files. The management station sends the OMI configuration to
the switches in MOF file format.
