NOTE: The "Supported Operating Systems" section of Table 4-9 and Table 4-10
includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel versions. Updated or later versions of Red
Hat Enterprise Linux may require the use of dynamic kernel support (see "Installing
Server Administrator" in the Server Administrator User's Guide for an explanation of
this feature).
The Instrumentation Service provides device drivers for the precompiled
kernels listed in Table 4-9 and Table 4-10. When the Instrumentation
Service detects that none of its prebuilt device drivers supports the running
kernel, it attempts to build a device driver for that kernel. This feature of
Server Administrator is called dynamic kernel support. Server Administrator's
dynamic kernel support builds a device driver when needed during the
Instrumentation Service installation or start-up.
