1 Dell BIOS for Intel Optane Memory PreInstallation To add an Intel® Optane™ Memory module to your existing Dell system, you will need to ensure that it meets the following requirements: • The system has a 7th Generation Intel Core processor (Kaby Lake) or later CPU. • The operating system is Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Redstone 1 (RS1) Version 1607, or later. 2 Additional preparations for systems built before June 2017 Systems built before June/20/2017 require the below additional preparations for the set up. Please visit www.dell.com/support/home and enter the system’s service tag to get its shipping date. • 5 MB of un-allocated partition • Recovery Image modification (Recommended Optional Step) 5 MB of un-allocated partition Intel Optane Memory requires 5 MB or larger un-allocated partition at the end of the SATA 3.0 disk volume.
3 Downloading the Partition Tweak Script If the recovery partition of the SATA 3.0 drive is protected from shrinking the volume to create a 5 MB un-allocated partition, the user will encounter the following error messages when enabling Intel Optane Memory: Error Message: ISDI_0xA001004C: Last volume is not a data partition. Cannot shrink. If encountered, the user can download the Partition Tweak Script from the Dell Support site to create the partition. Go to Dell.
4 Running the Partition Tweak Script Carry out the following steps to run the Partition Tweak Script for Optane: 1 Unzip the downloaded script to see the following script batch file within the unzipped folder: 2 Select Partition Tweak Script A01.bat file and run the batch file by right-clicking the file. Then, select the Run as Administrator option. 3 You may get a User Account Control (UAC) prompt to approve running the batch file.
5 Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) Carry out the following steps to run the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver: 1 Open the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) from the start menu tile. 2 Click Intel Optane Memory to access the configuration options.
3 Click Enable in the IRST interface to pair the Intel Optane Memory module with the SATA 3.0 drive. 4 You will see a pop-up showing the Intel Optane Memory device and the system drive that the memory device will pair with. Click Yes.
5 Once the pairing is complete, click the Reboot to complete the Intel Optane Memory configuration. You will also note that the SATA Drive and the Intel Optane Memory device are now shown as an Optane Memory Array. 6 After the system restarts, you can open the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application from the top of the start menu. If you click the Intel Optane Memory tab, you will now see that the hyperlink option is now "Disable", indicating that Intel Optane Memory is enabled.
