1 Before you begin Safety instructions Use the following safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and to ensure your personal safety. Unless otherwise noted, each procedure included in this document assumes that the following conditions exist: • You have read the safety information that shipped with your computer. • A component can be replaced or, if purchased separately, installed by performing the removal procedure in reverse order.
Safety precautions The safety precautions chapter details the primary steps to be taken before performing any disassembly instructions. Observe the following safety precautions before you perform any installation or break/fix procedures involving disassembly or reassembly: • • • • • • Turn off the system and all attached peripherals. Disconnect the system and all attached peripherals from AC power. Disconnect all network cables, telephone, and telecommunications lines from the system.
• Handle all static-sensitive components in a static-safe area. If possible, use anti-static floor pads and workbench pads. • When unpacking a static-sensitive component from its shipping carton, do not remove the component from the anti-static packing material until you are ready to install the component. Before unwrapping the anti-static packaging, ensure that you discharge static electricity from your body.
Transporting sensitive components When transporting ESD sensitive components such as replacement parts or parts to be returned to Dell, it is critical to place these parts in anti-static bags for safe transport. Lifting equipment Adhere to the following guidelines when lifting heavy weight equipment: CAUTION: Do not lift greater than 50 pounds. Always obtain additional resources or use a mechanical lifting device. 1 Get a firm balanced footing.
2 Intel Optane Installing the Intel Optane card 1 Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer. 2 To avoid damaging the display, place the system on a flat, soft, and clean surface . 3 Remove the stand: a b c 4 Press and slide the release tab forward on the cover [1]. Hold the tab in the release position and lift the stand upward [2]. Slide downward to lift the stand off the back cover [3].
5 Remove the system board shield: a b Remove the five (M3x5) screws that secure the system board shield to the display assembly base [1]. Lift the system board shield off the display assembly base [2].
6 Install the Intel Optane card: a b c 10 Install the thermal pad on the rectangular outline marked on the system board [1]. Insert the Intel Optane card into the card slot on the system board [2]. Replace the screw (M2) that secures the Intel Optane card to the system board [3].
7 Install the system board shield: a b Place the system board shield on system board. Align the slots on the system board shield with the slots on the display assembly base [1].
8 Install the back cover: a b c 12 Place the back cover on the system. Press and hold the tab [1], and align the notches on the back cover with the slots on the middle frame. Slide the back cover in the direction shown to lock the back cover tab under the latch on the system-board shield [2].
9 Install the stand: a b Align the tabs on the stand [1]. Snap the stand into place on the back cover [2].
